June Craft, PMHNP

Family Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
8245 County Rd 44 Leg A, Ste 2, Leesburg, FL
I believe mental health care should feel collaborative, respectful, and supportive. As a nurse practitioner providing psychiatric medication management, my goal is to help patients better understand their symptoms, treatment options, and overall mental wellness in a way that feels clear and approachable. I work with individuals experiencing concerns such as anxiety, depression, mood changes, ADHD, trauma-related symptoms, sleep difficulties, stress, and life transitions. My approach includes thoughtful assessment, medication management when appropriate, education, and ongoing support to help you feel more informed and empowered in your care. I do not believe treatment is one-size-fits-all. I take time to listen to your concerns, understand your history, and consider your goals, preferences, and comfort level when developing a treatment plan. When medication is part of that plan, we will work together to monitor benefits, side effects, and any adjustments needed along the way. My style is warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental. Whether you are starting medication for the first time, considering changes to your current treatment, or looking for support in managing ongoing symptoms, my goal is to provide care that helps you feel heard, supported, and actively involved in your path toward stability and wellness.

What should a new client know about working with you?

New clients should know that you do not have to come in with the perfect words or a clear explanation of everything you are feeling. Many people start care feeling overwhelmed, unsure, or even nervous about what to say. My role is to help guide the conversation in a way that feels manageable, respectful, and not rushed. I try to create a space where you can be honest about what is working, what is not working, and what you may be hesitant about. I will ask questions to better understand your symptoms and experiences, but I also want you to feel comfortable asking questions of your own. I believe you should understand the “why” behind your diagnosis, treatment options, and any medication recommendations. My style is calm, supportive, and straightforward. I may offer education, coping tools, reflection, or gentle feedback when it seems helpful. I also recognize that medication is only one part of mental health care. Stress, sleep, relationships, trauma, daily routines, medical concerns, and life circumstances can all affect how you feel. During visits, I aim to balance psychiatric care with therapeutic support. That means we may talk about medication, symptoms, and side effects, but we may also spend time discussing patterns, stressors, coping skills, and realistic ways to support your mental health between appointments. Most importantly, I want clients to feel like care is something we do together, not something being done to them. You can expect to be heard, included, and treated as a whole person throughout the process.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical first appointment is focused on understanding what brought you in and what you would like help with. We will talk through your current symptoms, how long they have been happening, what makes them better or worse, and how they are affecting your daily life. I will also ask about your mental health history, medical history, current medications, sleep, appetite, stress, family history, and past treatment experiences. This helps me form a clear diagnostic impression and make thoughtful recommendations. From there, we will discuss treatment options together. This may include medication, therapy-based strategies, lifestyle changes, referrals when needed, or a combination of supports. I explain my reasoning, review benefits and possible side effects of medication, and make sure you have space to ask questions before starting or changing anything. Follow-up visits are usually a mix of medication management and therapy-informed support. We will check in on symptoms, progress, medication response, side effects, stressors, and anything that has changed since the last visit. I also use our time to help you build insight, identify patterns, strengthen coping skills, and work through challenges that may be affecting your mental health. I do provide therapeutic support during medication visits, but these sessions are not limited to talk therapy alone. The focus is on combining psychiatric evaluation, medication management when appropriate, and practical therapy-based tools so your care feels complete, collaborative, and useful.
