“Justin’s extraordinary passion for helping his clients is positively life changing. Specializing in identifying and allowing one to explore themselves facilitates the peace restoration of oneself. The therapy technique of talking of one’s own emotions with Justin, feeling vulnerable and completely secure at the same time, has given me ability to trust again and begin the heal cycle. I am and will recover from my trauma, and be the person I have aspired to be through Justin’s genuine, efficacious methods!”

“Justin is amazing! He's extremely attentive, trauma-informed, smart, and solution-oriented. He's funny and kind and isn't patronizing or passive. Most importantly, he seems to know exactly when to ask the right questions, and when to just let you talk. He isn't one of those therapists that leaves tons of room for blank space in the conversation, but he also won't cut you off your train of thought. And even if you're talking for a long time, he's still paying attention. He isn't a people pleaser and will help you see the things you need to work on, but he will also make you aware of your strengths and your growth. I recommend him to so many people!”

Getting to know Justin Roberts

I received a Master of Science in Nursing from Walden University, a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from San Diego State University, and an Associate Degree in Nursing from San Diego City College. I am board-certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) by the ANCC. During my clinical rotations, I was immediately drawn to psychiatry. I recognized how compassion and empathy-skills I developed over a 19-year career in veterinary medicine-were invaluable and directly transferable to patients facing mental health challenges. Since then, I have worked in an acute care inpatient psychiatry unit and on a consult team treating patients with substance use disorders. As a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I am dedicated to helping patients achieve their mental health goals. Growing up in New Mexico, I was surrounded by vibrant Southwestern culture, delicious food, and otherworldly landscapes. Throughout high school and college, I immersed myself in music and theater and became active in the queer community after coming out at age 16. Growing up in a relatively conservative town presented many challenges to my young queer self, but those experiences deepened my understanding of the importance of visibility, inclusion, trust, and mutual respect. As both a person and a practitioner, I approach everyone I meet with curiosity and an open mind. I believe this fosters a judgment-free, welcoming environment that nurtures relational trust. With clients, my priority is to help them feel seen, heard, and valued. I also believe that cultivating a rich personal life enables me to show up fully for my clients and provide the best care possible. When not working, you can find me attending or traveling to live shows, or listening and dancing to one of my favorite records at home (currently rotating: Metronomy, R?is?n Murphy, Stromae, and Charlotte Adig?ry).

What should a new client know about working with you?

As a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, my primary goal is to provide care that is responsive to your needs. I offer psychotherapy as the first line of treatment and, if deemed medically appropriate, can also offer medication management. I tend to be fairly meticulous with my history taking because I want to be sure I know as much about you as possible before making any recommendations for how best to provide care. As such, my intakes are generally completed over the course of 2 to 3 sessions, after which I will work with you to develop a treatment plan that is tailored to your goals.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
