Kaitlyn Steel, LMFT

Marriage and Family Therapist
VA
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and supervisor in Virginia and New York. I earned my Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy/Counseling from Capella University and my Bachelor’s in Psychology from Christopher Newport University. I am also a member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. While in New York I worked at an outpatient treatment facility providing both mental health and addiction treatment. I worked with clients involved in the court system, Child Protective Services, Department of Social Services, Probation/Parole, and other local community supports. My experiences in New York introduced me to a diverse population which has equipped me to treat clients of many backgrounds and experiences. I believe in Person-Centered Therapy from a Family Systems perspective. I believe you are the expert in your own life, my role is to come alongside you (and your family) to empower you to improve your attachment relationship and be more attuned to each other. I am a trauma-informed therapist. I primarily use Emotionally Focused Therapy. I am a military spouse (Army) and grew up as a military child (Air Force) so I have personal experience with the unique struggles of military life and transitions. I have lived in numerous states across the country as well as Japan and Germany. I have lived in the NOVA area off-and-on since 2006.
