He finished his internal medicine training at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan and served as the chief resident for the Detroit Veteran Affairs Hospital. His training in cardiovascular medicine included clinical and research training at the University of Iowa and University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas. He was trained in coronary and peripheral intervention at St Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis and Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. He has been practicing cardiology for the past 15 years and currently is Associate Professor of Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University. He is an attending cardiologist at Sentara Northern Virginia Hospital as well as Inova Fairfax Hospital, Inova Alexandria Hospital, Stafford Hospital and Mary Washington Hospital. He was also a member of the founding team who established coronary intervention program at Sentara Northern Virginia Hospital. In his spare time, Dr. Berenji enjoys spending time with family, swimming, yoga and cycling.
