About Dr. Karan Grover

I treat the whole abdomen, and I treat the person attached to it. My practice covers obesity medicine and bariatric surgery, foregut and reflux surgery, hernia and abdominal wall reconstruction, and general surgery. These overlap constantly. Reflux is often driven by obesity. A recurrent hernia often sits on metabolic disease that needs attention before anyone operates. Treating one problem in isolation is how patients end up back in the operating room. My training is unusual in a way that matters. I'm a physician and a pharmacist, board certified in obesity medicine and surgery. When we discuss a medication, I know how it works and how it interacts with everything else you take. When we discuss an operation, I can tell you honestly whether it's the right tool, because I perform it and I know what the alternatives can do. Obesity is a chronic disease, not a personal failing. Most people who come to me have been told for years to try harder. They have. What they haven't been offered is real treatment. Reflux gets dismissed as a nuisance, when some patients have anatomy no medication will fix. A hernia repair should be an operation you need only once. I'm a New Jersey native and trained entirely here, at Rutgers for pharmacy, medical school, and residency. I live in central New Jersey. Off hours I cook, work on the house and garden, and listen to a lot of music. I ask for honesty. In return you get straight answers, including when the answer is that you don't need surgery.
