Dr. Kathleen Bohomey, PhD

Neuropsychologist
1430 Broadway, 304, New York, NY
I am a clinical neuropsychologist who provides psychotherapy and neuropsychological assessment for teenagers, adults, and older adults. Neuropsychological evaluations include assessment of cognitive functions such as attention, language, memory, executive functioning, academic functioning, and emotional functioning. This comprehensive evaluation is done through a detailed clinical interview, paper and pencil testing on standardized cognitive measures, and questionnaires. The goal is to understand the relationship between a person’s brain and their cognitive and/or behavioral functioning in daily life. As a therapist, my goal is to create a warm and collaborative environment where you can feel comfortable and supported. I offer a goal-directed approach to help improve problem solving skills, modify unhelpful thinking patterns and behaviors, management of stress, and coping with emotional challenges. For individuals with cognitive difficulties, my aim is to improve your quality of life by developing compensatory strategies and engaging in cognitive exercises based on your personal needs and goals. I work to integrate various therapeutic styles, including aspects of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic therapy, to best meet a person’s needs.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I take a thoughtful, evidence-based, personalized approach to neuropsychological assessment, creating a space where clients feel heard and understood. My evaluations are designed to provide clear answers, practical recommendations, and insight into cognitive, emotional, and behavioral concerns.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process begins with an in-depth virtual intake interview to better understand your concerns, history, and goals. If neuropsychological testing is warranted, we then schedule an in-person evaluation consisting of standardized assessments tailored to the referral question, which may also explore related cognitive, emotional, or behavioral factors. Testing may include paper-and-pencil tasks, computer-based measures, questionnaires, and other evidence-based assessment tools. After testing is completed, we meet virtually for a feedback session to review the results, and a comprehensive written report is provided. The report is finalized after we review and discuss the results together as part of a collaborative process. Following the initial consultation and thorough review of presenting concerns, recommendations may include referral to another provider if more appropriate.
