Getting to know Kathryn Dowden

I’m a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with a passion for bridging traditional psychiatry and holistic wellness. With over 17 years of nursing experience, I’ve seen how mental health and physical health are deeply connected — and how healing happens best when we treat the whole person. My approach combines psychotherapy, medication management, herbal medicine, nutrition, and mindfulness practices to support balance and resilience. I also have specialized training in plant-based nutrition and yoga, which inform my work with patients seeking integrative and sustainable approaches to mental wellness. I’m especially interested in emerging treatments like psychedelic-assisted therapy, with an emphasis on harm reduction and evidence-based care. Outside of my work, I enjoy time in nature, practicing yoga, and exploring ways to bring more calm, compassion, and connection into daily life. Please note: I am accepting new patients for ongoing medication management support. I do not provide therapy.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe mental health care works best when it’s collaborative and deeply personal. During our first visits, I’ll take the time to understand your history, current challenges, and goals — not just through symptoms, but through the story of you. Together, we’ll create a care plan that feels supportive and achievable, whether that includes lifestyle adjustments, therapy, or medication. My goal is to create a safe, open space where you feel genuinely heard and empowered in your healing. I view every patient as an equal partner in the process and approach each relationship with compassion, curiosity, and respect for your individual journey.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I begin with a thorough evaluation to understand your history, current challenges, and goals. From there, we work together to develop a customized treatment plan, which may include therapy referrals, medication management, or advanced options such as ketamine-assisted therapy, Spravato®, or TMS. I check in regularly with my clients, adjusting treatment as needed to ensure you feel supported at every step of your journey.

After scheduling your appointment, you will receive an email from Stella Mental Health (formerly Numinus) containing your intake paperwork. Please allow about 30 minutes to complete this form. Your responses will help your provider prepare for your upcoming appointment. All patients are required to complete the intake form 24 business hours before their appointment. You will receive a phone call from one of our dedicated Care Advocates, who can answer any questions you may have. Please be prepared to provide a credit card to keep on file for co-pays or cancellation fees. Late cancellations and no-shows will be charged the full intake appointment fee ($292). During your intake appointment, you’ll spend 60 minutes with your provider collaborating on a treatment plan tailored to your needs. If in-person treatments are recommended—such as TMS, Spravato, DSR SGB, or ketamine therapy—our care team will guide you through the process and ensure you feel supported every step of the way.
