About Dr. Kathryn Schmidt
Dr. Kathryn Schmidt is a leading, highly rated gastroenterologist with our Manhattan Gastroenterology team. Dr.Schmidt completed her Gastroenterology training at the world renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, consistently ranked among the top hospitals in the United States. She prides herself on her personable approach and her focus on providing the highest level of patient care.
Dr. Schmidt graduated from the prestigious Northwestern University and earned her medical degree from the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine. She has a special interest in general gastroenterology, colon cancer
screening, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and women’s digestive health.
Throughout her career, Dr. Schmidt has been recognized for her academic excellence and dedication to patient care. I visited her for a rectal issue and she had LONG RED GEL NAILS on all her fingers which made me anxious that I might get infected. She prescribed me some medication in the patient portal without letting me know during the visit and I had to call them next day to send the prescription to the pharmacy. She DOES NOT REPLY to most of my messages in the patient portal. After lab results came out, I asked for prescriptions of medication while I was in pain but she didn't even respond. During the second visit, which was even worse, she actually showed up 5 mins late and KEPT COMPLAINING like "the appointment was supposed to be 15 mins but it's been now 20 mins." I'm pretty sure that I was the last patient on that day and there was no rush for other patients but she was passive-aggressively pushing me to stop asking necessary questions and also she couldn't give me clear answers on lots of questions and clear medical guidelines.

was able to see me an hour before my 1:30 PM appointment.
Dr. Schmidt and the assistant, Amanda, were supportive and
clear.
A plan was discussed to set up a date, time, location, prescription
to be used, and length of procedure.

Dr. Schmidt is a wonderful doctor to support you with your GI needs. I had been putting off a follow up for years now to get my stomach ulcer checked (purely out of anxiety) and she got me in for an endo/colo within a month. We have a treatment plan to help ease my ulcer pain and she is consistent in wanting to monitor and support me while getting to the bottom of it. First time in years I have felt relief with my GI issues. She is a straight shooter that wants the best for her patients. Highly recommend!! Thank you Dr. Schmidt!

I needed to be seen before flying within a week. The usual NYU providers located near me only had dates going out in January & February.
Fortunately the practice had one opening for today.
The practice is located on ground floor of a building. It is clean and spacious and the reception staff were efficient, helpful & timely.
Dr. Kathryn Schmidt was very personable, listened to me without rushing & suggested a plan going forward. Her MA, Winter was very good in explaining what I needed to do.
It was my first time at this practice & I would recommend highly !

My experience at this office was nothing short of immaculate. Dr. Schmidt was very warm, explained my options clearly, and scheduled me in for a follow up procedure within a week! Hopefully I don’t have anymore GI issues BUT if I do, I will definitely come back to Dr. Schmidt.

Very friendly staff! Office was nice but cleanliness was lacking….there was blood on the cabinet I was sitting next to from someone’s previous blood draw. Doctor was kind but I didn’t feel listened to and even laughed at certain points when I was discussing the reason for my visit. When offering solutions, I felt like a lot of the decision making was left to me and I wasn’t clear on what the options were. The doctor seemed impatient when I asked follow up questions. Room for improvement but again, VERY friendly staff.
