Getting to know Kenya Martin

Kenya Martin, PMHNP-BC, is committed to providing compassionate, comprehensive, and evidence-based psychiatric care. She believes that effective mental health treatment begins with understanding each individual as a whole person rather than focusing solely on symptoms or a diagnosis. Kenya strives to create a welcoming, respectful, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel comfortable discussing their concerns and working toward meaningful improvements in their mental health and overall quality of life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Clients working with Kenya can expect a collaborative and patient-centered approach to care. She takes time to listen carefully, understand each client's experiences and concerns, and identify the goals that are most important to them. Kenya believes clients should be active participants in their mental health treatment. She provides education about diagnoses, medications, treatment options, potential benefits, and possible side effects so clients can make informed decisions about their care. Her goal is to develop a trusting therapeutic relationship where clients feel heard, supported, and respected throughout their treatment journey.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Kenya begins with a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation that includes a review of the client's current symptoms, psychiatric and medical history, medications, previous treatment experiences, daily functioning, psychosocial factors, and individual treatment goals. Based on this assessment, she collaborates with the client to develop an individualized treatment plan. Treatment may include medication management, supportive interventions, patient education, lifestyle recommendations, referrals, and coordination with therapists, primary care providers, or other healthcare professionals when appropriate. During follow-up visits, Kenya evaluates progress, monitors medication effectiveness and potential side effects, addresses new or ongoing concerns, and adjusts the treatment plan when clinically appropriate. She strives to provide consistent and supportive care that helps clients achieve greater stability, improved functioning, and long-term emotional well-being.
