Philosophy of Care I believe it is fundamentally important to build a solid relationship based on trust between myself and my patients. This is achieved by working in partnership with patients to accomplish mutually defined health goals, treating illnesses and diseases using strategies grounded in the best evidence, and ensuring excellent bi-directional communication. Why I Entered Medicine After experiencing numerous injuries and illnesses while growing up, I became deeply familiar with the healthcare system from the patient’s perspective. This firsthand experience sparked my interest in the role physicians play and inspired me to give back by helping to prevent illnesses and injuries, as well as managing diseases that arise. Education and Training I earned my Bachelor’s degree from Hope College, followed by a Master’s in Public Health from the University of Michigan. I completed my Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Michigan State University and completed an internship in Family Medicine at Saint Luke’s Hospital. Community & Charity Involvement I have been an ongoing sponsor for disadvantaged children who have suffered burn injuries, enabling them to attend a special summer camp through the University of Michigan Burn Center. Personal Interests I maintain my well-being by spending time with my 20-year love, Susan, our wonderful four children, extended family, friends, and our large dog, Bo, along with several other furry and feathered companions. Together, we enjoy family movie nights, ice cream runs (not every night!), sporting events, and trips into NYC. You might also occasionally spot me pounding the pavement on a run or getting muddy on a mountain bike.
