Kia Barnett, SLP, CCC - SLP

Speech-Language Pathologist
CA
Hi! I’m Kia. I was first drawn to the field of speech-language pathology while observing the work my mother did as an occupational therapist in pediatric rehab settings. Seeing her support infants, children, and families sparked an early appreciation for helping others communicate and thrive. That interest grew into a clear passion after I observed a speech-language pathology clinic in college and immediately knew I had found my path. My clinical experience spans private practice, early intervention, home health, and school-based settings. Across these environments, I’ve supported children and families with a wide range of communication needs, with a strong focus on functional, everyday communication. I have a particular interest in pediatric populations and collaborative, family-centered care. I value working closely with caregivers to help carry therapy gains into daily routines and real-world settings. I’ve also pursued professional development in AAC, including a 4-day AAC assessment training through the Diagnostic Center of California, which has strengthened my ability to support children who benefit from alternative and augmentative communication. My therapy approach is highly individualized, strengths-based, and functional. I prioritize meaningful goals, active family involvement, and interventions that are practical, engaging, and tailored to each child’s unique communication profile.
