Getting to know Kianna Nelson

Hi, I’m Kianna Nelson, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I earned my Master of Science in Nursing from MCPHS University and have experience caring for individuals across both mental health and medical settings. My background has shaped my approach to care and taught me the importance of understanding the whole person, including their emotional well-being, physical health, life experiences, and individual needs. I understand that reaching out for mental health care can feel like a big step, and my goal is to make that experience feel comfortable and supportive. I provide warm, individualized, and judgment-free care where you can feel heard and have an active voice in your treatment. Together, we’ll work toward a plan that feels right for you and supports your goals, overall well-being, and quality of life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I want you to feel comfortable being yourself and know that your voice matters in your care. My approach is warm, collaborative, and judgment-free, with a focus on understanding you as a whole person rather than focusing on one aspect of your mental health. I value holistic care and consider how your emotional and physical well-being, relationships, lifestyle, identity, and life experiences may all play a role in how you’re feeling. I especially enjoy working with neurodivergent individuals, women navigating different stages of life, and those exploring concerns related to gender identity or gender dysphoria. I believe medication can be one helpful part of treatment, but I also value therapeutic support, education, and helping you better understand yourself. Ultimately, I want our visits to feel like a partnership where you feel heard, respected, and empowered to make decisions about your mental health.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first visit is about getting to know you and understanding what brings you to care. We’ll talk about your current concerns, mental and physical health history, past experiences with treatment, lifestyle, relationships, and what you hope to gain from our work together. From there, we’ll work together to create an individualized treatment plan that may include medication management, therapeutic support, education, lifestyle considerations, and coordination with other providers when appropriate. During follow-up visits, we’ll check in on your progress, discuss what is or isn’t working, and adjust your plan as your needs evolve. I view treatment as an ongoing partnership, and your preferences, experiences, and goals will always be an important part of the process.
