Psychologist
MD
We all need support. Sometimes this is due to feeling stuck in old patterns, overwhelmed and needing resources, or going through times of great change or grief. Psychotherapy can help you better identify your emotions and needs, and improve your ability to communicate. I use an integrative approach including practical tools for immediate relief, as well as exploration of how you got to where you are, and how you can move forward with greater intention and self-compassion. My approach is that of a partner in our work, rather than someone who has all the answers. I am committed to providing treatment to those of all backgrounds, religions, orientations, and identities. I earned my PsyD in Clinical Psychology from The George Washington University and completed a fellowship at the Institute of Living. Additionally, I trained in psychoanalytic psychotherapy through a fellowship at the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I see therapy primarily as a relationship. I have experience helping clients cope with major stressors like loss and grief, challenging family dynamics and life transitions, and anxiety, depression, and trauma. I help clients work on these issues by building skills and distress tolerance, as well as increasing their understanding of significant experiences and the impact they've had. I tailor my approach to the person and their goals, and it may change over time as the client's needs change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My first goal is for clients to feel seen and respected. I begin with a diagnostic period where we both get to know each other and ensure that our relationship will be a good fit for the important work we will do together. During this period, I will reflect what I'm seeing and hearing as their most significant challenges, and we will discuss how we can work on those together. Sometimes this means beginning with building skills to tolerate strong feelings and change behaviors that are holding the client back. After that, I see our continuing work as a collaboration in discovering more about the client and figuring out how they can build more meaningful and intentional lives.
