Getting to know Kimberly Smith

You may be keeping up with work, family, and responsibilities while privately struggling with anxiety, depression, poor concentration, burnout, or the feeling that you are no longer functioning like yourself. You deserve care that looks beyond a symptom checklist and takes the time to understand what is actually happening. I am a dual-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner, military veteran, and experienced advanced practice provider. I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, attention and focus concerns, stress, and burnout—particularly professionals and caregivers who are accustomed to carrying a great deal for others. My approach is thoughtful, collaborative, and unhurried. We will look at the complete picture, including your symptoms, medical history, medications, sleep, stress, daily functioning, and life circumstances. Together, we will clarify your concerns and develop a treatment plan that feels appropriate, practical, and manageable. Medication may be part of that plan, but it is never the entire conversation. When medication is appropriate, I prescribe carefully and purposefully while providing education about the options, expected benefits, potential side effects, and next steps. My goal is for you to feel heard, understand your treatment, and participate confidently in decisions about your care. I provide telehealth appointments for adults located in Colorado. I accept select insurance plans through Headway, and self-pay appointments are also available. Coverage should be confirmed before your appointment. If you are looking for a psychiatric provider who will listen carefully, consider the whole picture, and help you move forward with clarity, I invite you to schedule an initial appointment.

What should a new client know about working with you?

You can expect our visits to feel calm, collaborative, and respectful. I will ask thoughtful questions about your symptoms, medical and psychiatric history, sleep, stress, daily functioning, and treatment goals so we can understand the full picture—not simply match a symptom with a prescription. I believe you should understand the reasoning behind your care. We will discuss treatment options, expected benefits, potential risks, and practical next steps before making decisions together. When medication is appropriate, I prescribe carefully and monitor your response over time. Although our work may include supportive and therapeutic conversations, my primary role is psychiatric evaluation and medication management. When ongoing psychotherapy would be helpful, I may recommend incorporating a therapist into your treatment plan.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process begins with a comprehensive initial evaluation focused on understanding your symptoms, mental health history, medical background, and current life stressors. I take time to look beyond surface-level concerns and consider how factors such as stress, sleep patterns, workload, and life stage may be contributing to what you’re experiencing. Based on this discussion, we work together to develop a personalized treatment plan that aligns with your goals and values. My approach emphasizes education and shared decision-making so you understand your options and feel confident in the plan we create. When medication is appropriate, it is prescribed thoughtfully and conservatively, as one part of a broader, whole-person approach to care. Follow-up visits are used to monitor progress, review how interventions are working, and make adjustments as needed. The goal is ongoing, supportive care that evolves over time and helps you build clarity, stability, and long-term well-being in a calm, respectful environment.

  • Files your insurance claim: You pay the session fee upfront and the provider files the claim for you, so you can get reimbursed directly without worrying about the paperwork

More information on payments and coverage

I accept most major insurance plans through Headway, which manages billing and claims on my behalf. If your insurance is accepted, you’ll only be responsible for your standard copay, coinsurance, or deductible at the time of your visit—just as you would with any other in-network provider. For patients using self-pay, I offer straightforward, transparent pricing, and payment is collected at the time of service. If you’re unsure about your coverage, my team (through Headway) can verify your benefits before your first appointment and help answer any questions about costs. My goal is to make the payment process as simple and stress-free as possible so you can focus on your care.
