Getting to know Dr. Kiri Nevin

Kiri Nevin, PMHNP-BC, is passionate about providing high quality mental health care to those who seek it and is whole-heartedly committed to bringing positive change within the mental health community. Kiri completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Medical University South Carolina before attaining her Doctor of Nursing Practice specializing in Psychiatric / Mental Health from Rush University. Kiri has extensive experience providing high quality, evidenced-based care in diverse mental health settings including inpatient psychiatric and behavioral health hospitals serving the adult and geriatric populations, federal prisons housing adult male inmates, day treatment programs (PHP/IOP) across the lifespan, facilities specializing in eating disorders across the lifespan, and the private practice setting serving the adult population.
What should a new client know about working with you?
Seeking care for distressing mental health symptoms that negatively impact your daily life and opening up to a provider about these symptoms can be a daunting experience. My primary role at Mind Body Optimization is providing medication management. I will take the time to listen to your story and will collaborate with you, providing education and supportive counseling, to ensure we choose the best options for restoring your overall optimal mental well-being. Your individualized treatment plan may include not only medications, but also psychotherapy.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
I will enjoy getting to know you as my patient, listening to your story, while building rapport and establishing trust. Restoring your mental health to optimal well-being is a process requiring time, patience and investment from both you and me. I will work with you in a clinical partnership to provide the most appropriate treatment options to restore and optimize your mental well-being.

I have no idea where the positive reviews are coming from. The office staff has no idea what they are doing. Their form system doesn't work correctly, so when I asked if I could just sign the consents on paper to speed things up, the receptionist looked genuinely confused and said she doesn't think they do that. Huh? Then I am taken to a room for vitals and escorted to the bathroom for a urine drug screen. Fine. I pee in a cup and then go back to the same room where I came from and wait. Eventually the receptionist walks by and jumps because she is genuinely surprised why I am still sitting in the only room I had been in while inside this establishment. I was never shown where the provider's office was or told she was waiting for me. From the time I sat down, I could tell Kiri Nevin was going to be condescending. She tried to state I "refused" to sign the consent forms. Then kept saying I didn't fill out the ROI when I repeatedly stated it was not allowing me to input any information, as it was kicking it back with error messages. As soon as I started listing my medications and dosages, she stopped me cold when I mentioned clonazepam and said she was not going to refill it. She then said she would agree to do a taper, which I was completely open to and actually wanted, but she was vague about the details. I elaborated on my recent and past experiences and my psychiatric history and she seemed dead set on referring my to PHP/IOP when I stated I had done those before and had a regular therapist. In the end, she did not refill ANY of my meds, gladly collected that specialist pay from my insurance, and provided me with no information with the IOP program she told me with a big smile she was referring me to. This office is a mess. Avoid. Oh, and I was never able to fill out any paperwork, as the forms were never fixed/resent, and they never offered paper forms to fill out. All in all, I don't think they actually want to treat people here. I think they want to operate like a PCP and just throw Zoloft at everyone and call it a day. Don't call yourself a specialist then.
