Dr. Nikiforov practiced as the Unit Chief of a well-known Clark 9 and the Director of ECT at Mount Sinai West and Morningside Medical Center for fifteen years. At the hospital he gained an extensive unique experience working in Consultation Liaison, Adult, Geriatric and Emergency Psychiatry. In 2018 he joined his long-term colleague Dr. Galynker to create the innovative Family Inclusive Treatment (FIT) practice. Together, they expanded the model and established the Galynker Family Center for Bipolar Disorder in Midtown.
He prides himself as a hands-on, empathic clinician with experience working with a broad spectrum of psychiatric conditions in the full panoply of clinical settings. Dr. Nikiforov’s extensive experience with acute presentations has honed his approach to achieving immediate symptom relief to then shape a tailored, long-term FIT treatment plan that includes the right mix of treatment modalities.
His clinical interests are mood and Bipolar Spectrum Conditions with comorbid ADHD, OCD and Anxiety Disorders, late onset Bipolar Conditions with medical comorbidities and cognitive issues in mood disorders.
Dr. Nikiforov graduated from Pirogov’s Russian National Research Medical University in Moscow. He completed his residency training in psychiatry and a fellowship in geriatric psychiatry at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center in New York. He is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology in Psychiatry and Geriatric Psychiatry.

Dr. Nikiforov is an amazing and high quality doctor that is well worth the price. He personally called me within 10 minutes of me making my appointment to make sure that he is the right fit for me. The session itself brought me a lot of clarity as he took his time to empathetically understand the whole picture and offer advice that goes beyond medicine. He truly makes the experience of seeing him a personal one and still texts me every few weeks to make sure that I am doing okay. If you want a real doctor that will take the time to actually listen to you and provide you unique care that you actually need then don't hesitate to book a session. He is a rare find.

Dr. Nikiforov has been a lifesaver. I was hesitant to seek out help on this front, but I am sure glad I did. His holistic approach and thorough intake process coupled with his attentive listening during appointments make sure you get the best outcome possible. He also checks in on you in between appointments which is a stark contrast to prior doctors I have had. He truly cares. I now feel mentally stable for the first time in probably 10+ years and I can't thank Dr. Nikiforov enough. Put you hesitations aside and spend some time with Dr. Nikiforov, you won't regret it.

My experience with Dr. Nikiforov has been excellent thus far. I have always been apprehensive about seeing a psychiatrist and tend to feel uncomfortable in discussing the symptoms I was facing so I was nervous in approaching the appointment. Dr. Nikiforov is very personable and put me at ease during my appointment. He listened very carefully and was extremely thorough in considering my symptoms and the right type of treatment for me. Additionally, he is extremely easy to reach and very responsive. I always feel like I can reach out and get a helpful and quick response if I have questions or issues with my treatment. He also was very helpful in working with me on submitting claims to my insurance. I have since been seeing him for follow ups and plan to continue to use his practice.

I have been a huge fan of Dr. Nikiforov's thus far. A psychiatrist is someone you share very personal (often uncomfortable) information with - and so I spent months "interviewing" different providers prior to finding someone as knowledgable and empathetic as he. I appreciated his phone call prior to my consultation to ensure he could help, and I've been impressed by his making himself available to answer any questions I have. Highly recommend!

Dr Nikiforov is highly professional, experienced, with great bedside manner. He’s sensitive to the subtleties of depression, anxiety and bipolar illness. He does not pathologize or stigmatize people who are diagnosed, but rather sees the whole person. As a professional in the field, I waded through many psychiatrists to find him and am relieved that he accepts my insurance. I can’t say enough positive things!
