“I absolutely adore Lateima. She is patient, understanding, and allows me to vent in the way I need to without ever judging. She has an exceptional memory. I told her about some things I had going on 6 weeks prior and she remembered. The most important thing, is she holds me accountable. She's not the therapist who is going to coddle you when you may be wrong. She offers alternative ways to handle your situation. Overall, she is a great listener. Sometimes, people just want to be heard. Highly recommend her.”

Getting to know Latiema Merilus

Hey! I'm Latiema Merilus, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over eight years of experience helping people feel more balanced, supported, and in control of their mental health. I’m here to guide you toward lasting change—with compassion, expertise, and care that’s centered entirely on you. What sets my approach apart is how deeply I listen. I combine talk therapy and medication management with a holistic view of your life—considering the social, environmental, and emotional factors that affect your well-being. My goal is to help you feel seen, heard, and genuinely understood. You won’t just get a treatment plan; you’ll get a partner in your healing. I come to this work with real-world perspective—before becoming a nurse, I worked in finance, where I witnessed how stress and untreated mental health concerns can quietly impact lives. That experience inspired me to pivot into nursing and mental health, earning my BSN with honors from Rutgers University, my MSN from Wilkes University, and a certification in addictions nursing from the Addictions Nursing Certification Board. Born and raised in Brooklyn, I understand the pressures of fast-paced living and how they can wear on your mental health. Whether you're seeking support for the first time or looking for a provider who truly gets it, I’m here to help you take the next step forward—at your pace and in your voice.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe mental health care is most effective when patients feel truly seen and supported. My approach is centered on compassion, understanding, and empowering patients to actively participate in their care. I consider every patient’s unique circumstances, including social and environmental factors, to ensure treatment is both holistic and effective.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Latiema starts with a comprehensive initial evaluation to understand your mental health concerns, history, and goals. From there, she collaborates with you to create a personalized treatment plan, which may include therapy, medication management, or a combination of both. She emphasizes clear communication and ongoing adjustments to ensure your care evolves with your needs.

The provider was polite, professional and very engaged. The session went extremely well and didn't seem like the provider was just reading off a script or rating scale. I was very happy with the initial session and look forward to meeting again
