Getting to know Laura Beaufford

I was born in Waco, Texas and was raised by both parents with three older half brothers in Irving, Texas. During my childhood I experienced a tragic death of one of my brothers’ who attempted suicide, was then diagnosed with a drug induced psychosis and schizophrenia with unspecified bipolar depression. Unfortunately, he did not survive his disorder and was shot by an Orange County California police officer who most likely did not have the education to deal with an unstable mental ill person. This inspired me to make a difference and directly make a positive impact on today’s population with education and offer care. I have had many career paths including graphic art, accounting, retail customer service in a privately owned herb store. I decided to return to college at 41 years old and Graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington’ s nursing program in 2009. I have loved working as a registered nurse in medical/surgical unit, cardiac unit, hospice care, and case management at a major Dallas County hospital for several years. Then I made the decision to apply my listening skills to help others and actively make a difference in mental heath care. After graduating from Walden University with a Master of Science in nursing as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner throughout the lifespan, I have found my true passion in life. I currently care for all people ages 18 and up for all mental health care needs with unbiased practice to all people including LBGTQ+ consumers.
