Laura Bernal, APRN, RN

Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
NY
I work with adults who are dealing with anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD, and mood-related challenges. Many of my patients come in feeling overwhelmed, struggling to focus, or noticing changes in their mood, sleep, or daily functioning. My goal is to help you better understand what’s going on and create a clear, practical plan to move forward. I take a personalized and collaborative approach to care. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all treatment. Instead, I take the time to listen, understand your experiences, and tailor a treatment plan that fits your needs and goals. This may include medication management, lifestyle adjustments, and coordination with therapy when appropriate. Patients often tell me they appreciate feeling heard, not rushed, and leaving sessions with a better sense of direction and control. I provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and ongoing care in a supportive, judgment-free environment. Whether you’re seeking help for the first time or looking to adjust your current treatment, I’m here to help you feel more stable, focused, and confident in your daily life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

New clients can expect a supportive, structured, and collaborative approach. I take the time to understand your concerns in depth and provide clear guidance so you leave each session with a better sense of direction. My focus is on helping you improve how you feel day-to-day—whether that’s reducing anxiety, improving mood, increasing focus, or feeling more stable and in control. Treatment may include medication management, practical strategies, and coordination with therapy when appropriate. I value open communication and want you to feel comfortable asking questions and being involved in your care. My goal is to create a space where you feel heard, understood, and confident in the plan we build together.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first visit is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, where we review your symptoms, history, and current concerns in detail. This helps us develop a clear understanding of what you’re experiencing and create an initial treatment plan. If appropriate, treatment may include medication management, along with practical recommendations to support your day-to-day functioning. I also coordinate with therapy when helpful to provide a more complete approach to care. Follow-up visits are typically shorter and focused on monitoring progress, adjusting treatment as needed, and making sure you are moving in the right direction. Before your first appointment, you will be asked to complete intake forms and insurance verification to ensure a smooth and efficient visit.
