Laura Johnston, SLP

Laura Johnston, SLP

Speech-Language Pathologist
WI
Hi! I’m Laura. When I was deciding my career path, I knew I wanted to work with children, and I wanted to help people. I grew up with a cousin who was deaf and witnessed the difficulties she had communicating with people. I was one of the only family members who knew sign language and tried to be a support to her in family settings. By becoming a speech-language pathologist (SLP), I feel like I can be a support to families when they are struggling and help them understand their child's strengths and difficulties. I have worked in outpatient pediatric clinics, private practice, birth-to-3 county services, schools, and telehealth, supporting individuals with a wide range of communication needs. To deepen my clinical expertise, I’ve pursued extensive continuing education across feeding, communication, and AAC. My training includes evidence-based approaches such as the SOS Feeding Approach, PROMPT Technique, and Lidcombe Stuttering Program, along with coursework in auditory learning, PECS, AAC, and the assessment and treatment of Childhood Apraxia of Speech. My clinical approach is client-centered. I use routines-based practices to support meaningful carryover into everyday life and prioritize functional outcomes that matter most to each individual and their family.
