Hi, I'm Lauren Brown, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner passionate about providing compassionate, personalized mental health care to individuals across the lifespan. I graduated with my Master of Science in Nursing from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing and have dedicated my career to helping children, adolescents, and adults navigate challenges related to ADHD, anxiety, depression, trauma, and women's mental health. Mental health struggles can feel isolating and overwhelming, and I want you to know that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. My approach is rooted in creating a safe, welcoming space where you feel genuinely heard and understood without judgment. I believe that healing begins with connection—when you feel truly seen and supported, meaningful change becomes possible. I specialize in medication management but view it as just one component of comprehensive mental health care. During our time together, I'll take a holistic approach, considering how your symptoms affect your relationships, daily functioning, physical health, and overall quality of life. I'll explain treatment options clearly, discuss realistic expectations, and involve you actively in every decision we make. Your input, concerns, and preferences matter deeply to me. What sets my practice apart is my commitment to collaborative care. I don't just prescribe medication and send you on your way—I take time to educate you about your condition, provide practical coping strategies, and coordinate with therapists or other providers when additional support would benefit you. I want you to feel empowered and equipped to manage your mental health. Whether you're navigating a new diagnosis, struggling to find the right treatment after previous attempts haven't worked, or simply need consistent, reliable support, I'm here to walk alongside you. My goal is helping you reclaim your life, rediscover hope, and build the wellness and stability you deserve.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me means you'll have a psychiatric provider who genuinely listens, values your input, and treats you as an equal partner in your mental health journey. I understand that starting treatment—or trying again after previous experiences didn't work out—can bring up anxiety, uncertainty, and vulnerability. My role is to make this process as comfortable amd collaborative as possible. From our very first appointment, you'll notice that I'm not rushing through a checklist. Our initial 60-minute session is dedicated entirely to understanding your unique story—what you're experiencing, what you've already tried, what's working and what isn't, and what you're hoping to achieve through treatment. I'll ask thoughtful questions about your symptoms, medical history, family background, lifestyle, and current stressors, always explaining why I'm asking and how it informs your care. I pride myself on clear, honest communication. When we discuss treatment options, I'll walk you through how medications work in plain language, what realistic improvements you can expect and when, potential side effects and how to manage them, and alternative approaches if you have hesitations. My style is warm, approachable, and non-judgmental. There's no shame in struggling with mental health, and there are no "silly" questions in my office. If something isn't working or you're having concerns, I want to know immediately so we can problem-solve together. Your honest feedback is essential to finding what works best for you. Follow-up visits are typically 20 to 30 minutes and scheduled monthly once treatment is stable. During these appointments, we'll review your progress systematically, adjust medications if needed, and check in on your overall wellbeing. I also provide psychoeducation and practical strategies to support your mental health between visits. I coordinate with therapists and other providers when beneficial and remain accessible between appointments for urgent concerns.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process is structured yet flexible, designed to meet you where you are while providing the comprehensive care you deserve. I believe that effective psychiatric treatment requires both clinical rigor and genuine human connection, and I bring both to every appointment. Our first session together, usually 60 minutes, is an in-depth conversation where I gather the information needed to help you effectively. I'll explore your current symptoms—what you're experiencing, when it started, what triggers or worsens it, and how it's impacting your relationships, work, sleep, and daily activities. We'll review your complete psychiatric and medical history, previous treatments and medications you've tried, family mental health patterns, substance use, trauma history, and current life circumstances and stressors. My diagnostic approach is thorough and collaborative. I may use standardized assessment tools to measure symptom severity objectively and establish baselines for tracking your progress over time. I'll share my clinical impressions openly, explain my diagnostic reasoning, and ensure you understand what we're addressing and why. When discussing medications, I provide balanced, evidence-based information about how they work, expected benefits and realistic timelines, potential side effects and management strategies, and what monitoring will be necessary. Follow-up medication management visits typically last 20 to 30 minutes and occur monthly once your treatment has stabilized. During these appointments, we systematically evaluate symptom changes, medication effectiveness, side effects you're experiencing, adherence and any barriers you're facing, and your overall functioning and quality of life. While my primary focus is medication management, I incorporate supportive counseling and mental health education naturally into our sessions. When psychotherapy would clearly benefit you, I work collaboratively with therapists to ensure coordinated, comprehensive care.
