I'm Lauren Brown, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based mental health care to children, adolescents, and adults. I earned my Master of Science in Nursing from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, where I developed a comprehensive foundation in psychiatric treatment and a deep appreciation for the complexity of mental health across different life stages. My practice specializes in treating ADHD, anxiety disorders, depression, trauma-related conditions, and women's mental health concerns including perinatal and postpartum mental health. I understand that seeking psychiatric care can feel vulnerable, and I strive to create a warm, nonjudgmental environment where you feel genuinely comfortable being open and honest about what you're experiencing. I believe effective psychiatric care extends far beyond simply prescribing medication—it's about truly understanding who you are as a person, what you've been through, what challenges you're facing right now, and what you're hoping to achieve through treatment. I take meaningful time during each appointment to listen carefully to your concerns, answer your questions thoroughly, and explain treatment options in clear, accessible language that empowers you to make informed decisions about your care. I recognize that every individual responds differently to treatment, so I tailor my recommendations to your specific symptoms, lifestyle, and goals. Whether we're discussing medication options, developing coping strategies, or coordinating care with your therapist. I'm committed to staying current with the latest research and best practices in psychiatric care, ensuring that the treatment you receive is grounded in solid evidence while remaining flexible enough to adapt to your unique circumstances. Between appointments, I maintain open communication and remain accessible for concerns that arise.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me means entering a genuine partnership where your voice, preferences, and lived experience are valued at every step. I practice medication management with a holistic, patient-centered approach that considers not just your symptoms, but how mental health affects every aspect of your life—your relationships, work, daily functioning, and overall sense of well-being. Our first appointment lasts about 60 minutes, giving us ample time to truly get to know each other. I'll ask detailed questions about your current concerns, mental health history, previous treatments, medical background, family psychiatric history, and life circumstances. This isn't an interrogation—it's a conversation designed to help me understand your complete story so I can provide the most effective, personalized care possible. I believe strongly in transparency and shared decision-making. When discussing treatment options, I'll explain how medications work, what benefits you can realistically expect, side effects to watch for, and alternative approaches we might consider. I'll never rush you into decisions or pressure you toward treatments you're uncomfortable with. Your questions and concerns are always welcome—I want you to feel confident and informed about your care. Follow-up appointments typically last 20 to 30 minutes and are scheduled monthly once your treatment stabilizes. During these visits, we'll review how you're feeling, assess medication effectiveness, monitor for side effects, and make adjustments based on your response and feedback. I also incorporate supportive counseling and psychoeducation, helping you understand your condition and develop practical wellness strategies. Between appointments, don't hesitate to reach out through our secure patient portal if something feels urgent or concerning. Whether you're seeking care for the first time or transitioning from another provider, I'll meet you where you are with patience and understanding.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process is built to be thorough, collaborative, and centered on your individual needs and circumstances. Our work together begins with a comprehensive initial evaluation, usually 60 to 90 minutes, where I focus on truly understanding you as a whole person, not just a diagnosis or set of symptoms. I'll ask detailed questions about your current symptoms and concerns, when they began, what makes them better or worse, and how they're affecting your daily life, relationships, work, sleep, self-care, and overall functioning. When medication is clinically appropriate and likely to help, I provide detailed education about your options—how different medications work in your brain and body, what realistic benefits to expect and when you might notice them, which side effects to monitor and report, and alternative approaches if you have concerns or preferences. Treatment decisions are made together as partners through shared decision-making, never decided for you without your input. Follow-up medication management appointments typically run 20 to 30 minutes and are scheduled monthly once treatment stabilizes and you're responding well, or more often—sometimes weekly or biweekly—during the early phases or medication adjustments. While medication management is my primary focus, I also weave supportive counseling, psychoeducation about your condition, and coping strategies into our sessions. When specialized or intensive therapy would benefit your treatment, I'm glad to provide referrals to trusted therapists. Between appointments, I stay accessible and responsive through secure messaging for urgent concerns or questions that can't wait. If you're experiencing significant side effects, concerning symptom changes, or facing unexpected challenges, please reach out promptly—timely communication helps us address issues before they escalate. Above all, I want you to feel like a genuine partner in your care, supported and understood at every step.
