Getting to know Lauren Isdale

I pride myself on the ability to listen, and it is with that basic action that I strive to provide care to every individual I meet and every patient I encounter. I believe no one knows themselves better than the patient, which is paramount to beginning the journey toward improved mental health during a time of challenge or struggle and as a basis for realistic goals and collaborative treatment plans. I truly put forth the effort to take this journey with my patients on an individual level, in a cooperative therapeutic relationship. It takes boldness to say, "I'm struggling," and take the step toward finding help—whether medication or therapy—and I recognize this in my practice. Education and understanding the "why" help take the mystery out of mental health, which can be reassuring for patients. This is another facet I promote during sessions. I make every effort to create a safe, compassionate, and comfortable space for the patient to allow the internal struggle to be externalized and the supportive treatment process to begin. My philosophy and goal since entering mental health 12 years ago have been to reduce stigma and stereotypes surrounding mental health and allow individuals the same space and resources that a person with Type 2 diabetes seeking care would be afforded. I have been fortunate during my professional experience and training to be exposed to various conditions in inpatient, outpatient, and partial-hospitalization programs. I am board certified as a Nurse Practitioner in psychiatry and mental health from the ANCC and hold a Post-Master's Certificate in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing from the University of St. Francis. This experience extends to the evaluation and treatment of anxiety, depression, OCD, bipolar disorder, ADD/ADHD, mood disorders, PTSD/trauma, and a special interest in binge eating disorder. I hope to continue this educational journey and work toward further growth in my practice.
