Getting to know Leah Alcid

I believe the best psychiatric care begins with a strong therapeutic relationship where you feel heard, understood, and never judged. Whether you're struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, substance use, or a combination of mental health and addiction concerns, my goal is to provide a safe, supportive, and collaborative space where we can work together to understand not only your symptoms, but also the underlying factors contributing to them. I have a special interest in treating mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma-related conditions, substance use disorders, and dual diagnosis, recognizing that these challenges often overlap and benefit from an integrated approach to care. I take the time to understand your unique experiences, strengths, and goals so we can create a treatment plan that is personalized, practical, and aligned with what matters most to you. I believe education is an essential part of effective treatment. I take the time to help you understand your diagnosis, symptoms, treatment options, and how medications work—including their potential benefits and risks—so you can make informed, confident decisions about your care. My approach combines evidence-based medication management, education, and supportive therapy to help you build lasting stability, improve your quality of life, and move toward meaningful recovery.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I want my patients to feel comfortable asking questions and being active participants in their care. They never have to worry about being judged or rushed—I take the time to listen, explain why I'm recommending a particular treatment, and make sure they understand their options before we make decisions together. If something isn't working, we'll talk about it and adjust the plan rather than forcing an approach that doesn't fit their needs. I also believe that progress looks different for everyone. Some patients come to me looking for symptom relief, while others want to better understand themselves, improve their relationships, or build healthier patterns over time. For those struggling with substance use, I recognize that everyone is at a different stage of change. Whether someone is ready to pursue abstinence, exploring change, or simply looking for support, I'll meet them where they are. I believe in a harm-reduction approach that prioritizes safety, respects autonomy, and helps patients make informed decisions while working toward their own goals. My role is not to tell my patients how they should live their lives, but to provide honest guidance, evidence-based recommendations, and compassionate support so they feel empowered to make informed decisions that align with their own values, goals, and readiness for change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I view treatment as a true partnership. I take the time to get to know each patient beyond their diagnosis, including their personal history, overall health, relationships, and life experiences, because these all play an important role in mental health. Rather than focusing solely on a diagnosis, I focus on understanding what symptoms are affecting your quality of life and what you hope to achieve through treatment. I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. My role is to provide clinical expertise, education, and guidance while empowering you to make informed decisions about your care. Together, we'll explore the factors contributing to your symptoms, discuss treatment options, and create a plan that reflects your values and goals. As your needs change, we'll continue to adjust that plan so your treatment evolves with you.
