Marriage and Family Therapist
14583 Big Basin Way, Saratoga, CA
Hello, I'm Lena Axelsson, a licensed marriage and family therapist and PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Ryokan College, specializing in providing compassionate and effective therapeutic support to individuals (12 years and up), couples, and families. The foundation of my work is built upon the belief that everyone has the capacity for growth, healing, and meaningful connections. As a therapist, I value creating a safe and nonjudgmental space where clients can explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. My approach is collaborative and client-centered, meaning that I tailor therapy to suit each individual's unique needs, goals, and values. I believe that therapy is a partnership, and I am here to support you every step of the way, bringing my almost 20 years of experience and extensive training. In all the years I have practiced, I have found that people have the capacity for much larger change than they first expected. To support this change, I have continued to train in different modalities, ensuring I can tailor treatment to best suit each client who comes through my doors or internet portal. At the beginning of treatment, it is often important for me and my client to find the skills that will help the client most when different symptoms show up in life-symptom relief. After that, we will increasingly focus on the underlying issues that contributed to the symptoms to begin with. Some clients will continue from this point and move toward broadening their satisfaction in life, exploring questions more in the realm of spiritual and personal development. I incorporate psychoeducation to support understanding in the process and to boost my clients' abilities to apply what is worked on in the therapy room to their lives.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My style is collaborative. I have extensive training in different modalities which I draw from in collaboration with the individual client to fit their needs the best. The methods to treat trauma/PTSD that I'm trained in are: EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, and NARM (modality for complex trauma). Apart from that I utilize both cognitive and somatic approaches in therapy.
