“Lily is a wonderful doctor. I was very nervous about finding a new doctor because I had been a patient of someone else for a long time. That doctor retired. Meeting Lily was a God send. She is warm, comfortable to talk with and helps you to feel valued. I would recommend her highly!”

Getting to know Dr. Lily Tung

Lily Tung is a doctorally prepared, dual board-certified psychiatric and family nurse practitioner with over 12 years of experience as an advanced practice nurse. She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Frontier Nursing University and holds a Post-Master's Certificate in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing from Ursuline College. Lily brings a rich clinical background that includes years of work as an emergency nurse practitioner, giving her a deep understanding of how physical and mental health intersect. Lily provides virtual psychiatric care to individuals aged 14 and up in New York and New Jersey. She specializes in treating anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, sleep issues, and panic disorder. Her approach is warm, compassionate, and collaborative—focused on personalized medication management and supportive care that helps patients feel understood, empowered, and supported in their healing journey. Fluent in Mandarin Chinese, Lily offers culturally sensitive care and welcomes patients from all backgrounds. She recognizes the impact of culture, identity, and life experience on mental health and creates a safe space where patients feel truly seen and respected. Whether you're navigating emotional stress, trauma, or ongoing mental health challenges, Lily provides thoughtful, expert care to help you move forward with clarity and confidence.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Lily Tung’s style is warm, supportive, and down-to-earth. She believes in building a trusting, collaborative relationship with each patient—one where you feel safe, heard, and never judged. Whether you’re new to mental health care or returning after time away, Lily meets you where you are and works with you at your own pace. Her treatment approach combines evidence-based medication management with supportive therapy and elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). She helps patients understand the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, while also offering practical tools to manage anxiety, depression, and other challenges in daily life. Lily takes time to get to know the whole person—not just symptoms. She considers your lifestyle, stressors, strengths, and goals to create a care plan that’s truly personalized. If something isn’t working, she adjusts the plan together with you. Sessions with Lily are collaborative and flexible. She welcomes open communication and encourages you to ask questions, share concerns, and take an active role in your care. Her goal is to empower you—not only to feel better, but to better understand yourself and your path forward.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Lily Tung’s process is thoughtful, collaborative, and centered on understanding the whole person. During the first visit, she takes time to listen closely to your concerns, symptoms, history, and goals. The initial evaluation typically lasts about an hour and involves a comprehensive diagnostic assessment, including mental health symptoms, medical history, lifestyle factors, and current stressors. From there, Lily works with you to develop a personalized treatment plan. This may include medication, supportive therapy, lifestyle recommendations, or referrals for additional support if needed. She believes in shared decision-making—explaining options clearly and making sure you feel comfortable every step of the way. Follow-up sessions are typically 25–30 minutes and focus on how you’re responding to treatment, tracking progress, and addressing any new or ongoing concerns. Lily integrates supportive therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques into her sessions to help you better manage stress, shift unhelpful thinking patterns, and build coping skills. Her goal is to create a safe, open space where you feel empowered and supported—not rushed or judged. Each session is a step toward healing, growth, and gaining back a sense of control in your life.

I had an excellent appointment with Lily Tung. She was empathetic and encouraging.
I was disappointed with my experience during the sessions. The therapist seemed to rely heavily on questionnaires and often redirected my questions back to myself without providing much guidance or insight. It felt more like journaling on my own rather than receiving professional support. I would have appreciated more active engagement and deeper understanding of my needs.
