What should a new client know about working with you?

As a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), I strive to be a holistic provider by recognizing the interconnectedness of mental, physical, emotional, social, cultural, and spiritual well-being. My approach to care focuses on treating the whole person rather than solely addressing symptoms or diagnoses. I am committed to providing compassionate, individualized, and evidence-based care that considers each patient's unique experiences, strengths, values, and personal goals. By fostering therapeutic relationships, promoting patient empowerment, and collaborating with patients and interdisciplinary healthcare professionals, I aim to support healing, resilience, and long-term mental wellness. My goal is to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where every patient feels heard, respected, and actively involved in their treatment and re

What is your typical process for working with clients?

As a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), my initial intake process focuses on providing comprehensive, holistic, and patient-centered care. I begin by establishing rapport and creating a safe, supportive environment that encourages open communication. I conduct a thorough psychiatric, medical, family, and psychosocial assessment, including the patient's presenting concerns, current symptoms, medication history, substance use, sleep patterns, and daily functioning. I also perform a mental status examination, assess safety and risk factors, and utilize standardized screening tools when appropriate. Based on the findings, I collaborate with the patient to develop an individualized treatment plan that may include medication management, psychotherapy referrals, psychoeducation, and lifestyle interventions. During medication management, I engage patients in shared decision-making by discussing treatment options, expected benefits, potential risks, side effects, and appropriate monitoring. I consider each patient's unique needs, preferences, medical history, cultural background, and personal goals when determining the most appropriate treatment approach. My holistic philosophy emphasizes treating the whole person by addressing the interconnectedness of mental, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being. I also encourage healthy lifestyle habits, stress management, sleep hygiene, and supportive relationships to promote overall wellness and recovery. Follow-up appointments focus on evaluating treatment effectiveness, monitoring medication adherence and tolerability, reassessing symptoms, and measuring progress toward established treatment goals. I review changes in mood, anxiety, sleep, appetite, concentration, and daily functioning, while assessing for adverse effects, emerging safety concerns, and the need for medication adjustments. When indicated, I review laboratory results, vital signs, and other medication-specific monitoring parameters.
