About Dr. Lixana Vega Vega

Born in Puerto Rico, Dr. Vega Vega knew that she wanted to become a surgeon by age 14. The idea of treating, and possibly curing a disease by performing surgery intrigued her from a very young age. After completing high school in her hometown of Cayey, she attended the University of Puerto Rico, where she graduated with honors, with a major in Biology. Dr. Vega Vega attended the UCC Medical School where she became a member of the Alpha-Omega-Alpha Honor Medical Society. During medical school, she participated in surgical rotations at the University of South Florida at Tampa General Hospital (Tampa, Florida) and Emory University at Grady Memorial Hospital (Atlanta, Georgia). Dr. Vega Vega completed her General Surgery residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. During residency, she gained experience in various disciplines within general surgery. From treating patients that had undergone severe trauma at Kings County Hospital (Level 1 Trauma Center) in Brooklyn, NY to treating cancer, with surgical rotations at the world-renowned Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan, NY. It was during surgery residency that Dr. Vega Vega developed a special interest in Breast Surgery. She finds it highly rewarding to treat women who are undergoing breast cancer. She treats breast cancer, as well as benign or non-cancerous breast conditions. Dr. Vega Vega also has a special interest in Minimally Invasive Surgery, since it may provide patients with a faster recovery from surgery and excellent cosmetic results. She performs laparoscopic repair of hernias, as well as laparoscopic removal of the gallbladder and laparoscopic removal of the appendix for acute appendicitis. Dr. Vega Vega also performs surgery for perianal conditions like hemorrhoids, anal fissures or fistulas; skin lesions, soft tissue masses, and chemotherapy port placement.

She hardly spent a few minutes with me and made her office assistant call me for further details regarding the surgery and this assistant did not discuss the available options for surgery. I was operated upon at a hospital when the same procedure could have been done in-office.
She listen to what was going on with me. Very good doctor. Will take great care of you. Will recommend to my friends and family.
