Getting to know Dr. Lorangelly Rivera
Dr. Lorangelly Rivera is board-certified in Adult psychiatry and has been practicing for over 5 years.
Dr. Rivera focuses on medication management and brief psychotherapy utilizing techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and supportive therapy in 30-minute appointments. When appropriate Dr. Rivera may recommend additional psychotherapy with a psychologist as part of the treatment plan. She is fluent in both Spanish and English and is passionate about working with the Latinx population.
She completed her bachelor’s degree in Cellular Molecular Biology from Metropolitan University, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and her postgraduate work at the National Cancer Institutes in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Rivera received her medical degree from Ponce Health Sciences University School of Medicine, Ponce, Puerto Rico. She completed her residency training in psychiatry at the University of Rochester Medical Center. After completing her training she began working for Lifespan Physician Group where she became program director for Lifespan Latinx Mental Health Services and served as Staff Psychiatrist at Rhode Island Hospital and The Miriam Hospital. She holds a faculty position in The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior as a Clinical Instructor.

Because we accept insurance, we can reduce out-of-pocket expenses and still offer high-quality care. You may not have any cost related to your visit with us, depending upon your insurance plan. Most patients pay a small copay per visit, subject to any deductible or coinsurance that your health plan has. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services determines appropriate billing guidelines. These guidelines depend on the length of the visit and the complexity and severity of your diagnosis. For this reason, we need to wait until after the visit for the final determination. We then submit the claim to your insurance company. The charges are calculated based upon pre-negotiated prices with your insurance company. Your insurance company will then determine what amount, if any, is your responsibility per your insurance plan.

I think it’s important people know that this provider will not work with those also on medical cannabis. She was very nice but I said in my appointment request what I needed so I wish it had gotten cut off before the appointment was even made. Was very disappointing to have to leave an appointment that way.

I found Dr. Rivera to be incredibly thoughtful and engaging in our conversation. Throughout our conversation, they were attentive, asked follow-up questions, gave me space to get all of my thoughts out, and then brought it all back together to a spot that made it all make sense for me. This was a virtual visit so I really appreciated how clear her background and camera setup were. The environment was warm and brightly lit by the sun and made a huge impact in making a great connection between us. So many virtual visits can feel really stuffy, blurred out, or suffer from poor internet, but this session felt great.

Dr. Rivera was so helpful even during the first visit. She is incredibly kind and understanding, listens very carefully during the hour long intake, and is very patient and sympathetic. She even helped me find a therapist at her practice within a couple of days. One thing that's important to note about the practice is that it's 100% online, which is great for me but may not be for everyone.
