Getting to know Lucy Mwangi

I am a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with more than 20 years of experience in psychiatric and behavioral health care. I provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and supportive psychotherapy for adults through secure telehealth visits across Texas. I treat ADHD, anxiety, depression, PTSD and trauma-related disorders, bipolar disorder, insomnia, panic disorder, and other mental health conditions. I believe effective treatment begins with listening. I take time to understand your concerns, explain your diagnosis and treatment options, and work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan that aligns with your goals and values. At Radiance Psychiatry & Wellness, my goal is to provide compassionate, evidence-based care in a respectful, judgment-free environment where you feel heard, informed, and actively involved in your treatment. Whether you are seeking help for the first time or looking for a fresh approach, I am committed to helping you achieve meaningful and lasting improvement in your mental health.

What should a new client know about working with you?

When you work with me, you can expect compassionate, thorough, and individualized psychiatric care. I believe that the best treatment starts with listening and taking the time to understand your unique experiences, concerns, and goals. During your visits, you can expect: 1. A comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and thoughtful diagnostic assessment 2. Clear explanations of your diagnosis, treatment options, and medications 3. Collaborative treatment planning and shared decision-making 4. Medication management when appropriate, combined with supportive psychotherapy and practical coping strategies 5.Ongoing follow-up to monitor your progress and adjust your treatment plan as your needs change My goal is to create a safe, respectful, and judgment-free environment where you feel heard, supported, and actively involved in your care. I value building long-term therapeutic relationships and helping patients achieve meaningful, lasting improvement rather than simply treating symptoms.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Your first visit begins with a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, where we discuss your symptoms, medical and psychiatric history, current concerns, lifestyle, and treatment goals. This allows me to develop an accurate diagnosis and create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs. When appropriate, treatment may include medication management, supportive psychotherapy, psychoeducation, and practical coping strategies. I believe patients make the best decisions when they understand their diagnosis and treatment options, so I take time to explain recommendations, answer questions, and involve you in every step of the decision-making process. Follow-up appointments focus on monitoring your progress, evaluating medication effectiveness and side effects, reinforcing therapeutic skills, and adjusting your treatment plan as needed. My goal is to provide compassionate, evidence-based care that helps you achieve lasting improvement in your mental health.

I feel like my appointment was a waste of time. I was a little late submitting my intake paperwork, but technical issues kept preventing us from fully processing it so we could start the appointment on time, so I do not fault Dr. Lucy at all for this. However, I feel that I was completely mishandled. I left with no treatment plan, medications for managing my mental health, or anything. And yet they are pushing for payment while holding my discharge paperwork hostage. They want payment when they did nothing but literally put me in harms way, and I don't feel I should have to pay for that.
