I chose a career in speech therapy with one goal in mind: to help others communicate with loved ones. I’ve always been passionate about helping others and problem solving to accomplish goals. Therapy is a team effort. I earned a master's degree in speech and language, but a family is the expert of a child. I involve family whenever possible to ensure the most effective therapy possible. I completed the Meaningful Speech course in 2022 to help gestalt language processors achieve spontaneous communication using a natural language acquisition approach. I meet children where they are and work to target goals using real-life situations. They’re struggling to communicate with peers? I will be in the classroom guiding during centers to help improve their communication skills I follow a child’s lead during therapy. I have a toolbox of materials, but involving a child’s interests and building on what they are drawn towards increases motivation and carryover tenfold.
