Dr. Madeline Amberge, MD

Psychiatrist
600 Wyndhurst Ave, Ste 305C, Baltimore, MD
Many people struggle for years to overcome symptoms such as anxiety, overwhelming emotions, or feelings of emptiness. They may find themselves caught in repeating self-defeating patterns that can impact relationships, career satisfaction, and creative expression. My goal is to work together to understand these patterns, not simply as problems to eliminate, but as meaningful expressions of something deeper which can be worked through and transformed. My approach involves listening with attuned, non-judgmental curiosity as we work towards expanding insight into your inner life. As a board-certified psychiatrist and psychotherapist, I work with those seeking a collaborative, individualized approach to treatment and most commonly combine psychotherapy and medications. I have experience working with individuals who carry the effects of trauma, attachment difficulties, personality, and mood disorders. I invite you to get in touch to discuss your hopes for treatment and the possibility of our working together in psychotherapy, medication management, or for a consultation / second opinion. My office is located in Baltimore, MD and I offer appointments in person or online in MD, DC, VA, & MN.

What should a new client know about working with you?

In my experience, psychoanalytic psychotherapy is the form of treatment most likely to lead to lasting and meaningful change, often including improvement in symptoms. I primarily offer psychoanalytic psychotherapy, sometimes with the support of psychiatric medications. I also work with patients seeking psychiatric medication to compliment their work with another therapist, and with those who prefer to focus on medication alone. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is a collaborative, experiential, and potentially transformative process that aims both to reduce suffering and to open the way to lasting change. My approach involves listening with attuned, non-judgmental curiosity as we work towards expanding insight into your inner life. This is achieved in part by our attending to interpersonal relationships - including the therapeutic relationship as it evolves over time - as well as to patterns and behaviors that promote or interfere with living in alignment with your desire and sense of self. Psychiatric symptoms are commonly multi-determined and my approach integrates an exploration of potentially contributory medical, generational, racial, and cultural factors. Psychiatric medication can be a life-altering tool, reducing suffering and expanding one’s ability to find fulfillment within themselves and their life circumstances. If we determine that medication is helpful or essential for you, I prefer to combine medication treatment with psychotherapy, either with me or in collaboration with your therapist. I am experienced in managing complicated medication regimens and guiding individuals interested in de-prescribing psychiatric medications when appropriate.
