About Dr. Mae E Young
I was always interested in science in school; however, while studying genetics at Iowa State University, I realized that what truly fascinated me was translating scientific knowledge and research into advancements that could have a real impact on people's lives. This realization led me to pursue medicine, earning my Doctor of Medicine from Washington University in St. Louis. I felt that medicine provided a unique opportunity to be part of that process and witness the profound benefits for patients firsthand.
I completed my residency in Orthopedic Surgery at Tulane University and further specialized with a fellowship in Hand Surgery at the University of Alabama, Birmingham. Orthopedic surgery, and hand surgery specifically, can have an extraordinary impact on patients’ quality of life. Meeting someone with an injury or problem, supporting them through surgery and recovery, and then seeing them return to the activities and hobbies that bring them joy is the most rewarding part of my specialty.
I make it a priority to truly listen to patients’ concerns and understand how their injury or condition affects their lives. I prefer a collaborative approach, working together to design a treatment plan tailored to individual preferences and goals.
