About Dr. Mahesh Allam

Mahesh G. Allam, MD, is an Internist with additional training in Pulmonary Disorders, Critical Care, and Sleep Disorders. A graduate of the University of the West Indies Faculty of Medical Sciences, Jamaica, where he earned his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, Dr. Allam completed an internship at Port of Spain General Hospital from 1985 to 1987. During this time, he underwent two years of training in Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopedics and Urology, OB/GYN, Pediatrics, Community Health, and Psychiatry. He also trained in Emergency Medicine at the University Hospital of the West Indies. Dr. Allam completed his Residency in Internal Medicine at Howard University Hospital and D.C. General Hospital in Washington, D.C., from 1988 to 1991, where he served as Chief Resident of the Department of Medicine in 1991. He completed a Fellowship in Pulmonary Diseases and Critical Care at Howard University Hospital under Dr. O. D. Polk and Dr. Alvin Thomas. Additionally, he trained in thyroid disorders under Dr. Leonard Wartofsky, a world-renowned endocrinologist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. From 1991 to 1993, Dr. Allam pursued further training in Sleep Disorders and Sleep Apnea at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center under Dr. Phillip “Flip” Smith. In 1993, Dr. Allam moved with his family to Winter Haven, FL, and established Medical Associates of Central Florida. For twenty-three years, he worked in hospital settings, providing ICU care and Pulmonary Consultant support. In 2016, he transitioned to full-time outpatient services, focusing on managing chronic disease and preventive care, with expertise in population health management. His wife, Tania Allam, is a Chemical Engineer and currently serves as the Business Manager at Medical Associates of Central Florida. Their two daughters are also in healthcare: Shalini Allam is an Internist at Georgetown Hospital, and Nikhita Allam is training in Healthcare Data Analytics at University College London.
