I am Makesa Toure, a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner dedicated to providing holistic and patient-centered mental health care. With experience in hospitals, outpatient clinics, sub-acute care facilities, and long-term care settings, I specialize in treating adolescents, adults, and veterans with anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, and other mental health challenges.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Immaculata University and completed my Master's degree in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania. My professional journey includes clinical roles at Banyan Addiction Treatment Center in Milford, DE, and Pinnacle Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Smyrna, DE, where I provided psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and therapeutic interventions.
To increase access to quality care, I founded Maksam Health & Wellness Center, offering comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and therapy. I adopt an integrated approach to health, focusing on both mental and physical wellness. Additionally, I provide telehealth services to ensure flexible, accessible care for my patients.
I began my healthcare career at PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Dover, where I developed a strong foundation in holistic, patient-focused care. I am passionate about empowering individuals to achieve lasting mental and physical wellness.

I found my visit to be frustrating. I was there simply seeking a prescription change but was essentially forced into a talk therapy session.
When discussing my symptoms of a diagnosed anxiety disorder, which I have had and regularly seen a psychologist about for years, I was told, verbatim, that “sometimes we need to realize things aren’t always in our control and just chill.”
This platitude was invalidating and frustrating as someone who lives with this disorder each day and has tried many, many times to “just chill.” I’m glad this wasn’t my first experience with a mental health provider or I would have left thinking I was being ridiculous and my problems weren’t valid. I won’t be returning.
