“I moved to Wisconsin in september & was in need of a new psychiatrist here. I kept putting it off and before i knew it i was about to be out of my medication. I was able to get scheduled right away for an in person appointment so easy did everything all online. I was really nervous finding a new doc here and for my appointment in general, I hate feeling like I have to “start over” or retell my entire life story again lol. I left my appointment feeling so much ease and validation. Dr. Margaret is simply amazing! she truly listened to everything i said, provided me with such comfort throughout the appointment, and her vibe is just so comforting and genuine. highly recommend!!!”

Getting to know Margaret Schauer

Do you struggle with depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, or other mental health diagnoses? Are you seeking psychiatric medication management? I can help you become the best version of yourself. I believe the clinician-patient relationship is key to improving self-esteem and alleviating symptoms of mental health conditions. I specialize in the evaluation and management of psychiatric medications to provide comprehensive and personalized treatment plans. In addition to psychiatric assessments, evaluations, and medication management, I can help connect patients to adjunct treatments, including but not limited to transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), psychedelic therapy (SPRAVATO esketamine), and talk therapy. I hold a Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Des Moines University, which has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to deliver compassionate, evidence-based mental health care tailored to each patient's unique needs.

What should a new client know about working with you?

The first appointment will involve a review of personal history, including family dynamics, childhood experiences, relationships, and any significant life events as well as explore the reasons you sought services and the specific symptoms and challenges you are facing. Recommendations for care will be provided and together you’ll begin to develop a plan to achieve your goals and achieve symptom relief. Prior to your appointment, please complete and submit the intake form sent upon booking, or complete our digital intake form linked here.. If this paperwork is not completed prior to your appointment, please arrive at least 15 minutes early to complete the required paperwork in-office. Headquartered in Oak Brook, Illinois, Relief Mental Health is a leading outpatient provider of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), psychedelics (SPRAVATO® esketamine and IV ketamine), psychiatric medication management, and talk therapy, for the treatment of depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, anxiety and other diagnoses. Founded in January 2020 and dedicated to delivering expedited care, Relief has 10 facilities in three states. In Illinois, clinics are located in Chicago (Lakeview and West Loop), Oak Brook, Orland Park, Northbrook, Rockford, and St. Charles. Relief’s other clinics are in Warren and Red Bank, New Jersey, and West Allis, Wisconsin. With a commitment to evidence-based care and putting patients’ needs first, Relief Mental Health continually explores innovative treatments to provide the best possible outcomes.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Patients’ initial medication management evaluation is a crucial step towards understanding and addressing their mental health needs and typically involves a thorough assessment of their medical and psychiatric history. I will provide information about potential treatment options, including psychiatric medications, and explain the benefits, potential side effects, and risks associated with each. This discussion aims to engage the patient in the decision-making process, ensuring they actively participate in their treatment plan. Relief Mental Health is an outpatient provider of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), psychedelic therapy (SPRAVATO® and IV Ketamine), psychiatric medication management, and talk therapy for the treatment of depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder and other mental health diagnoses. While our expertise is broad, there are certain mental health conditions and diagnoses that fall outside our scope of practice. Your initial appointment will be considered an intake appointment and will not guarantee a continued patient-provider relationship.

Don’t see your insurance?

It’s common for mental health providers to be out-of-network. Many insurance plans offer out-of-network coverage, so you may get partially reimbursed. Learn more

Out-of-pocket fees and assistance
  • Sliding scale: Offers lower out-of-pocket fees on an individual basis, typically based on your ability to pay
  • Files your insurance claim: You pay the session fee upfront and the provider files the claim for you, so you can get reimbursed directly without worrying about the paperwork

More information on payments and coverage

If we do not receive your insurance information at least 24 hours prior to your appointment, we will collect a $100.00 deposit at the time of service and verify benefits after your appointment has taken place. This deposit will be applied towards any out-of-pocket costs for services, including copays, coinsurances, deductibles, or the full cash rate if we are out-of-network or unable to verify your insurance benefits. Once benefits are verified, any outstanding balance will be charged to the credit card on file and any overpayment can be refunded or applied to future visits. Our providers’ profiles list which insurances they accept, but patients are still encouraged to contact their insurance company for specific coverage details. Most of our providers are in-network with a variety of commercial PPO policies and Medicare, but are out-of-network with commercial HMO policies, Medicaid and other government-funded health insurance providers.
