Maria Alfonso was born on May 22, 1976, in Camagüey, Cuba. She holds a master's degree and a PhD in Pedagogy, providing her with a strong foundation in the field of psychology. Her advanced academic achievements allowed her to contribute significantly as a thesis tutor and consultant for master's and doctoral students at the Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de
Camagüey and in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Additionally, she collaborated with the University of Guayaquil, offering guidance and support to postgraduate students. After emigrating to United States she began pursuing a career in nursing and obtained a Master of Science in Nursing (Direct Entry) in 2019. In 2021, she joined the University of Miami Hospital as a Registered Nurse while completing her Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program at Miami Regional University. Upon completing the FNP program, Maria discovered her passion for mental health care. She enrolled in the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program at Florida National University and graduated in 2024.
That same year, Maria began working as a Behavioral and Mental Health Intake Coordinator at HCA Kendall Hospital, a role that paved the way for her career as a PMHNP at R&C Psychiatry. Currently, she is enrolled in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program at Miami Regional University, continuing her journey of personal and professional growth.
