About Maria Nunez
Maria Gabriela Nunez chose to pursue a career as a physician assistant (PA) after several years of working as a Medical Assistant. Her desire to find a challenging career in the medical field that directly impacted patients’ lives made the PA profession the ideal choice for her.
Maria Gabriela began her career as a PA in 2012 in the Department of Medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Drawn to the complex challenges of dermatology and the opportunity to build long-lasting connections with her patients, she started her dermatology career in 2017. As a physician assistant, she enjoys caring for a markedly diverse patient population who require her expertise. Maria Gabriela is fluent in both Spanish and English and cannot imagine a career better suited to her skills and passions.
She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies from York College, City University of New York, and also holds an Associate’s degree from Queensborough Community College. Maria Gabriela is certified by the NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants). To stay at the top of her field, she frequently attends conferences and lectures. Having lived in New York for over a decade, Maria Gabriela spends her time outside of work with her husband and children.

This was my first time in the office. I waited about 45 minutes. I would not be upset about this had someone said to me… things are running a bit behind. Then I was in with the PA for about 3 minutes. She seemed rushed to me. Maybe it was a bad day but I won’t be back to be told I have a lot of sun damage (no duh.. that’s why I’m here - don’t need a reminder)

Dr Nunez was pleasant and knowledgable during my appointment. The unsolicited attempt at psychiatry was unnecessary, though. The real issue was afterwards, when the pharmacy would not fill what she prescribed, and despite my calling and leaving messages repeatedly, she could not be bothered to respond until the day of my follow up (weeks later). That changed my mind about continuing to see her.

I came here to have a skin cancer screening and have 3 moles removed. At the office visit I was told that they could only do 1 thing per visit. Meaning I would have to go there and additional 3 more times! I checked with my insurance and they advised they do not have any restrictions on their end as to needing 3 additional visits and they were not sure why this dermatologist couldn’t do it all in 1 visit. Who has time for all these appointments? I had a previous dermatologist (in Long Beach) who told me I could do it all in one visit (I was too chicken to have them removed at that time). Not sure what the real reasoning was but I don’t have time for all these Doctor visits. I’ll be finding another dermatologist.
