What should a new client know about working with you?

I value your autonomy and answering any questions you have. I appreciate clarifying any potential diagnoses and engaging in psychoeducation to help you better understand and manage any condition(s) you may be struggling with. Helping you become your greatest advocate is one of my goals. I do not end a session without you feeling comfortable with the plan and I do not push medications. However, I am comfortable with prescribing when it is appropriate and necessary. Though this goes without saying, I value your opinions, perspectives and power of choice. Let's work together to help you find a solution for your mental health needs today!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical session with me includes an intake. I will ask you many questions about your psychiatric and medical history to figure out what is going on. Once I have an idea of what you may have, then we discuss the possible options that we can pursue. We will choose a plan together based upon your comfort level and what is clinically appropriate for your situation. I practice talk therapy and prescribe medications when appropriate.

In-network insurances

Out-of-pocket fees and assistance
Initial session: $600 for 60 minutes
Ongoing session: $350-450 for 30 minutes
  • Files your insurance claim: You pay the session fee upfront and the provider files the claim for you, so you can get reimbursed directly without worrying about the paperwork

More information on payments and coverage

Currently, I am in-network with major insurance carriers in Massachusetts. Insurance claims will be applied towards the total session fee. I am also accepting fully out-of-pocket payments if you are interested in a discrete concierge approach to your medical care. For an initial evaluation, I will spend 60 minutes or more with you to help identify your needs, using an integrative approach to care. For follow up cases, I will spend 30 minutes or more with you to manage medications and discuss your ongoing care. I will stay on the call with you until we figure out a comfortable plan for you and until your questions are answered. For therapy sessions, we can decide what frequency, length and time is most appropriate for you. My current out-of-pocket (i.e. concierge) fees are as follows: $600 for a 60-minute consultation $350 for a 30-minute follow-up Payment for services are collected the day of your visit. We will send you confirmation of your appointment with a link to the virtual session, intake forms and collect billing information at that time. We will file insurance claims for you on your behalf which will apply towards the total session fee. We can also provide you with a superbill(s) for services rendered should you prefer that. You can contact your insurance carrier to determine whether or not you have out-of-network benefits. In-person visits are available upon request.

Dr. Mariam did an excellent job working with me. I have been struggling with anxiety for a few decades now and she was able to manage my anxiety and help me cut down on a medication that I had been taking for years. She engaged in therapy and deep breathing. She is well-equipped to treat trauma. She made sure to work with me, empathized very well. I felt heard and seen by her. She is an excellent psychiatrist!
Dr. Aboukar made sure to listen to my concerns. I had space to express my emotions. She helped me feel better by diagnosing me appropriately and providing me with treatment options. She quickly sent in the medication and even sent me documents that I needed filled out immediately after our session. She provided me with a sliding scale and adjusted the fees for me. I highly recommend her care!
She’s a wonderful doctor that is very knowledgeable and also has a lot of empathy. I highly recommend her to anyone that needs either a therapist or a psychiatrist

Her ability to listen and understand is unmatched, making me feel deeply heard from the very first appointment. Her empathy skills are astonishingly amazing, creating a space where I felt safe and valued. Dr. Aboukar combines professional expertise with genuine compassion, offering insights that have been both enlightening and transformative. I highly recommend her to anyone in search of a psychiatrist who truly cares and connects with their patients on a profound level
During the session she did most of the talking and doesn't show she care about the patient. Have a hard time trying to connect with her and there's an inconsistency in her communications. When I raise concerns her answer sounded sarcastic and condescending. Not very professional.
