Dr. Margulies brings with her 28 years of experience working with adults, parents, and children. Prior to engaging in full time private practice, she has worked in a variety of settings and positions. She has worked as a school psychologist for children with special needs, served as a consultant psychologist in several agencies and clinics in NYC and surrounding area, and as director of infant and child development at a major foster care agency located in the South Bronx. While there, Dr. Margulies designed cutting edge research looking at attachment patterns of (substance using) mothers with their babies and ways to strengthen the mother-infant bond. Using a videotape feedback method, she worked with mothers to increase their ability to reflect on their babies' needs and wants and make connections with their own neglect as children. Dr. Margulies has published, lectured and taught at local universities and teaching hospitals. She has extensive training in child and adult psychoanalytic psychotherapy studying at institutes such as the Westchester Center for the Study of Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy, The William Alanson White Institute, and The Institute for Psychoanalytic Education at the NYU Medical Center. Looking toward the future, Dr. Margulies is working on a series of children's books on the topic of emotions. Picking up the threads of her first career in writing and journalism, she is planning a series of video blogs on topics in the area of mental health and creativity. Her last foray into this area was a few years back when she produced and hosted an award-winning local cable TV show, Conversations with Dr. Marian.
