Marie Alexander, APRN

Marie Alexander, APRN

Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
10290 N County Blvd, Ste 102, Highland, UT
My approach to psychiatry is grounded in curiosity, collaboration, and the belief that symptoms rarely tell the whole story. While diagnoses are important, effective treatment begins with understanding the person behind the diagnosis. Together, we explore not only what symptoms are present, but also what is driving them, how they affect daily life, and what may be preventing you from living the life you want. Throughout my career, I have learned that mental health challenges rarely exist in isolation. While helping children, adolescents, and adults, I often find that family relationships, communication styles, environmental stressors, and caregiver dynamics play important roles in both wellness and distress. I believe lasting improvement frequently involves supporting not only the individual, but the family system surrounding them. Rather than simply asking, "How do we fix this problem?" I often ask, "What is happening in this person's life, family, and environment that may be contributing to it?". I focus on enabling mental, emotional, physical, and behavioral well-being by utilizing evidence-based, holistic treatment modalities.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My clinical interests include ADHD across the lifespan, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma-related conditions, women's mental health, PMDD, and the complex interaction between medical and psychiatric conditions. I especially enjoy helping individuals who have struggled for years with symptoms that may have been misunderstood, misdiagnosed, or only partially treated. As a prescriber, I am thoughtful and conservative, while also recognizing when appropriate psychopharmacologic treatment can be life-changing. I view treatment as a partnership and work closely with my patients to develop individualized plans that respect their goals, strengths, values, and preferred ways of learning.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My first appointment with you will be a 90-minute comprehensive bio-psycho-social-spiritual evaluation so I can get to know you and understand the contributors to your mental health concerns. We will also discuss your symptoms and goals. With all the information we will develop a holistic, evidence-based, patient-centered treatment plan that will help you accomplish your goals and live a meaningful life. Your follow-up appointments will generally be 30 minutes. In these appointments we'll evaluate how the treatment plan is going, make adjustments when necessary, and use evidence-based treatments to help you accomplish your goals and live a meaningful life.
