Marina McKeown, CCC - SLP

Speech-Language Pathologist
NC
Hello! I'm Marina. I became a licensed speech-language pathologist (SLP) in 2019. During my early years as an undergraduate, I bounced around different ideas and intro courses to find a career path. My alma mater’s philosophy on education is, “cura personalis”, and focuses on the pursuit of education in dedication to the greater good. More specifically, the importance of recognizing the inherent value and dignity of each person. My intro to speech pathology 101 class opened my eyes to how the various sectors of speech pathology (eg. articulation, expressive language, dysphagia, etc). are so intrinsically valuable to each person for their identity and pride. I was immediately drawn to a field where as a professional I would be able support and help shape functional skills for a person's everyday interactions and needs. I've worked in settings such as private practice and outpatient rehabilitation. I've received trainings in Deriving Clinical Meaning from a Medical Chart Review (ASHA), FEES Training for the Evaluation of Oropharyngeal Dysphagia (Carolina Speech Pathology), and Standardization of Dysphagia Diets: A Model of Successful International Engagement (ASHA). I would describe my clinical style as holistic, client-centered, functional, individualized/personalized, family-centric, routines-based, strengths-based, sensory integrated, and rooted in client-empowerment to create self-advocates.
