About Dr. Mario Howell

Mario Howell, N.D., M.Ed. is an Arizona licensed naturopathic physician. He offers integrative medicine to the public, blending the best of both natural and conventional medicine. He takes pride in providing individualized and personalized health plan treatments for each patient’s condition. His discovery and passion for complementary and alternative medicine began in the mid 1980’s. His awareness of this type of medicine grew as a consequence of discovering natural health options and choices that one could make on the road to optimal wellness. Dr. Howell was born in Quito, Ecuador and came to the United States as a young boy. He grew up in the town of Ashland, Kansas surrounded by hard working farmers and ranchers where he developed his work ethic. After graduating from high school he went on to receive a B.S. degree in biology from Fort Hays State University. He spent three years working with troubled youth in Kansas, Nebraska and Texas and in 1985 he settled in Amarillo, Texas and spent a few years building cabinets before receiving his massage therapy license and his personal fitness certificate in 1990. Two years later he opened his own massage therapy and wellness business which he ran for over a decade. While raising a family and developing his massage therapy practice he enrolled in post graduate school and received his Masters of Education degree in professional counseling from West Texas A&M University in 1995. In 2002 he was accepted at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe AZ. and graduated with a doctorate in 2006. Dr. Howell had the privilege and honor of being one of only two naturopathic doctors to be personally mentored by Kent Pomeroy, M.D. from 2009 until Dr. Pomeroy’s death in 2012. Dr. Pomeroy was considered one of the world’s premier prolotherapist and was a pioneer in its development. Dr. Pomeroy was introduced to prolotherapy in the mid 1970’s by Gustav Hemwall, M.D., who is considered the grandfather of prolotherapy.
