Marjorie Charles, NP, ANP, APN

Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
NY
I support adults of all ages who are navigating substance use, addiction, anxiety, depression, burnout, emotional overwhelm, life transitions, or simply feeling unlike themselves. With more than a decade of experience in substance use and addiction medicine, I understand that seeking help can be difficult, and I strive to create a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space where each person feels heard and respected. At Holistic Minds Psychiatry, I take a whole-person approach to care, looking beyond symptoms to understand the individual, their experiences, goals, relationships, lifestyle, and overall well-being. My approach combines evidence-based psychiatric treatment with thoughtful attention to wellness, behavioral strategies, and therapeutic support. For individuals struggling with substance use or addiction, treatment is personalized to meet each person where they are. Recovery is not one-size-fits-all, and my goal is to work collaboratively with each patient to develop a plan that supports stability, meaningful change, and long-term wellness. When medication is appropriate, it is one tool—not the whole answer. Together, we work toward helping you feel more grounded, empowered, and fully yourself.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Starting mental health or addiction treatment can feel overwhelming, but you do not have to navigate it alone. I believe effective care begins with listening, understanding your goals, and creating a space where you feel safe, respected, and free from judgment. With more than a decade of experience in substance use and addiction medicine, I understand that every person’s journey is different. Whether you are seeking support for substance use, anxiety, depression, burnout, emotional overwhelm, or a major life transition, we will work together to understand what is happening and develop an individualized treatment plan that fits your needs. I take a whole-person, evidence-based approach to care. Medication may be part of treatment when appropriate, but it is only one piece of the process. I also value education, healthy lifestyle changes, behavioral strategies, and therapeutic support. My goal is for you to feel heard, understood, and actively involved in your care. You do not need to have everything figured out before your first appointment—we can start where you are and take it one step at a time.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process begins with getting to know you—not just your symptoms, but your experiences, concerns, goals, and what you hope will be different. During the initial appointment, we take time to review your mental health and substance use history, current challenges, medications, medical history, and other factors that may be affecting your well-being. Together, we identify the primary concerns and develop an individualized treatment plan. When appropriate, this may include medication management, support for substance use or recovery, behavioral strategies, lifestyle changes, and recommendations for therapy or additional resources. For patients working through substance use or addiction, I provide compassionate, evidence-based care focused on safety, stability, and sustainable recovery. Treatment is individualized and designed to meet you where you are, without judgment. Follow-up visits are used to monitor progress, discuss what is and is not working, address medication response or side effects when applicable, and adjust the treatment plan as needed. My goal is to make care collaborative and transparent, so you understand your options and feel actively involved in every step of your treatment.
