Getting to know Mark Cox

I hold a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology from California Baptist University (1998), which is my terminal degree. While I am very grateful and appreciative of that educational experience, my life experience must also be considered when describing my background. I have been married for 42 years and have two adult children, their spouses, and five amazing grandchildren. I have been fortunate to have had many wonderful workplace opportunities over the years, but my family has been the greatest joy, blessing, and education of my life. They have helped me appreciate how truly wonderful family life is, and I want to pass that perspective along to others searching for that joy.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I like to think of the world of therapy, counseling, etc. through the eyes of a child. My grandchildren specifically. When trying to answer the question; “what is it that you do at work Granddad?” After explaining the process a bit one of them chimed in and simply said: “Oh! You help people that need help!” That is the essence of what I hope to do.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In my work with my clients I seek to find their level of comfort and attempt to use a “client centered” and “solution focused” approach to help the client find peace and hope as they progress through their journey ahead. Whether overcome with emotional weights such as Depression or Anxiety, struggling with difficult relationship issues, or desiring some direction and inspiration as you continue on your journey, I want to come along side you as you progress.

I’ve been seeing Mark for around 8 years, both individually and with my wife, and I cannot express enough how grateful I am for his guidance and support. He has been a steady source of wisdom and solid advice, helping us navigate some of the most challenging times with patience and grace. What sets Mark apart is not just his professional expertise but his genuine care and understanding. Even during moments when I was hesitant to follow his advice, I eventually realized the profound difference between my way and his recommendations. His experience and wisdom have been crucial to my personal development, and I truly appreciate how he's always been there, offering sound guidance even when the path wasn't easy. I am incredibly thankful for Mark and highly recommend him to anyone seeking a compassionate and insightful therapist.
15 months ago our life was changed forever. We lost our son to suicide. He was here staying with us because his marriage was in a bad place. That morning I received a text from him and I knew something was about to happen. I was outside, on the phone with 911 when I heard the shot. I was only 20ft away from him, I just couldn’t see him because of where he was. I was with him within seconds, my husband was there shortly after that. We had to do and see things that no parent should ever have to do or see!!! Our trauma is difficult and deep. Through God’s perfect provisions we were led to Mark. I am convinced that Mark was sent by God to help us! His knowledge of suicide, his deep understanding of God’s word and the compassion he has for the broken hearted were used by God to slowly allow our hearts to begin healing. Mark was brought into our lives to help us as we begin to process our pain while also learning how to move forward.
Mark has been the such a blessing in the life of my husband and I. He has truly been life changing. He is very compassionate, empathetic, and wise. He has given us so much practical suggestions and help which we have implemented into our daily lives. Most importantly we love that he genuinely cares for us and our personal success. We can’t say enough about him, he is truly wonderful.
Mark is amazing, we started seeing him through our employer back in 2014. We have brought our children to see him as well. He provides such a positive, atmosphere, hears me out, provides insight whether good or bad in my own personal eyes, speaks truth to me even when. I don’t want to hear it. I continued to receive his service through his private practice, and hope to continue to do so. My spouse, children and myself feel very comfortable and open to talking to him because of the atmosphere he has provided.
Mark is amazing, patient, a great listener and a great feedback therapist. He is so helpful and provides such a great space to dig in to whatever you need to. I am so grateful for his help and very happy to recommend him to anyone who needs a sounding board, some guidance and/or some space to figure stuff out.
I saw Mark four years ago after I was struck by a car while I was walking. After a long physical recovery my wife kept noticing that I was having an ongoing struggle with fear and anxiety. She encouraged me to seek counseling and at first I resisted. I thought I could just work it out myself. But it wasn't long until I realized I had to talk to someone. Mark was a great listener. His counseling led me to face many of my fears and to take steps to solve them. I'm much better now. Mark never talked down to me and he did not make me feel stupid for my unfounded fears. Seeing Mark was a key step in my recovery.
So grateful to have a therapist as kind and considerate as Mark. I trust his insights and appreciate that he accommodates my busy schedule as a working mom of 2 little ones. He has helped me through grief over the loss of a parent and also seen me through the joys of my young family. I appreciate that I am able to schedule appointments when in crisis or when I just need to maintain good progress. I know I'm where I am today due in large part to his excellent care and support.
Words can not describe the difference Mark has made in my life. God has truly used him to speak into everything I have struggled with. He listens, he is compassionate and he cares. He has always been professional and Mark has always made time for me when ever I needed it. His words and the wisdom that he gives has a way to speak into my life. Everything he says I respect and know he is being led by the Holy Spirit. I went to counseling before and saw no change until one day my pastor offered for me to try Christian counseling and that’s when I met Mark. I have been with him a few years and he is one of the few people I trust. I value his opinions and the way he gives me new perspectives. He has became a pillar in my walk with God because of his wisdom. He prays for me and always goes back to the Word of God. His character shows his heart for people and I have been blessed to have him in my life.
Mark is one of a kind. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing him during challenging times in my life over the past 7 years. His thoughtfulness, wisdom, and kindness have seen me through some incredibly difficult times. I feel eternally grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him and have no doubt that our work together has helped me weather the storms of life far better than if I’d faced them alone. Logistically, Mark is responsive, flexible, and reliable. I have no hesitation recommending him and have done so to family and friends.
