About Dr. Mark Mendeszoon

Dr. Mark J. Mendeszoon, DPM, FACFAS, FACPM Dr. Mark J. Mendeszoon is a double board-certified, fellowship-trained, Harvard-trained reconstructive foot and ankle surgeon bringing three decades of clinical excellence to Downtown Physicians, serving NYC and the tri-state region. He is a former president of the Great Lakes Region American College of Foot & Ankle Surgeons and served as Chief of Podiatry at University Hospitals Richmond Medical Center for over 20 years. With a prolific portfolio of more than 20,000 surgical cases, his high-volume practice spans complex reconstructive surgery, traumatology, total ankle arthroplasty, and regenerative medicine using advanced biologics — a testament to both his surgical mastery and his patients' trust. He trained at the Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine, completed residency at Harvard-affiliated Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and finished a two-year fellowship in traumatology and reconstructive surgery. He now serves as a Fellowship Director, university professor, and published researcher. A former Division I athlete, Dr. Mendeszoon's lifelong passion for sports medicine has taken him to the world stage as team physician at four consecutive Olympic Summer Games (London 2012, Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020, Paris 2024). That same passion drove him to found the SPIRE Institute, co-found the Maple Leaf Track Club, and serve eight high schools and major university athletic programs. He has owned Achilles Running Shop for 20+ years and contributes to Men's Health, Footwear News, and Nike.com. Dr. Mendeszoon lives with his wife, Kristen, and children Myles and Marijke, both honors scholarship athletes at Iowa State.
