Getting to know Dr. Marquette Leach

Dr. Marquette Leach, DNP, PMHNP-BC, is an adult psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner and founder of Brainium Health. He provides in-person care in Raleigh and Greenville, NC, as well as virtual appointments across North Carolina. Dr. Leach earned his Master of Science in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing from East Carolina University and his Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Duquesne University. He also holds a Master of Science in Nursing Education from Barton College and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Saint Joseph's University. He is currently completing advanced training in the Foundations of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at William Alanson White Institute. His approach to care is collaborative, structured, and evidence-based. He focuses on understanding the full picture—symptoms, history, and goals—to develop individualized treatment plans that may include medication management, supportive therapy, and practical strategies for daily functioning. Dr. Leach is committed to helping patients achieve meaningful, sustainable improvements in their mental health. He emphasizes education, shared decision-making, and clear treatment planning so patients feel informed, supported, and confident in their care.

What should a new client know about working with you?

At Brainium Health, care is collaborative, thoughtful, and tailored to you. I take a practical, evidence-based approach to treatment, combining medication management with supportive and skills-based therapy when appropriate. Our first visit focuses on understanding your full story—not just symptoms. We’ll review your history, current concerns, and goals, then develop a clear, individualized plan. I prioritize education so you understand *why* a treatment is recommended and what to expect. My approach is structured but flexible. I often incorporate elements of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), anxiety management strategies, and problem-focused support to help you build tools you can use between visits—not just rely on medication alone. I work with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD-spectrum symptoms, mood disorders, and stress-related concerns. When helpful, I take a measurement-based approach using validated screening tools to guide treatment decisions and track progress over time. I value transparency and shared decision-making. We will discuss options, including benefits, risks, and alternatives, so you can make informed choices about your care. If you’ve had negative experiences with medications in the past, we will move thoughtfully and at a pace that feels right for you. Appointments are efficient, focused, and respectful of your time—while still allowing space to feel heard and supported.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical visit is structured, focused, and collaborative. During your first appointment, we’ll complete a comprehensive evaluation that includes your current concerns, psychiatric and medical history, prior treatments, and goals for care. When helpful, I may use brief, evidence-based screening tools to better understand symptoms and track progress over time. At the end of the initial visit, we’ll review impressions and develop a clear treatment plan together. This may include medication options, therapy recommendations, lifestyle strategies, or a combination—always with discussion of risks, benefits, and alternatives so you can make informed decisions. Follow-up visits are typically shorter and focused on how you’re doing—reviewing symptom changes, medication response, side effects, and any new stressors. Adjustments are made as needed to keep your treatment effective and aligned with your goals. While I am primarily focused on medication management, I also incorporate supportive therapy, problem-solving, and elements of cognitive behavioral strategies during visits. If more in-depth therapy is needed, I will help coordinate appropriate referrals. My goal is for you to leave each visit with a clear plan, practical tools, and a sense of direction in your care.
