Getting to know Masako Longwell
Masako is a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner who believes in caring for the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. Taking a holistic approach to mental health, she looks beyond symptoms to explore the underlying factors that influence emotional well-being, including physical health, lifestyle, relationships, and lived experiences. More recently, Masako also completed continuing education that focused on PTSD assessment and management through the National Center for PTSD. She is also an emergency department consultant for the VA Hospital in Portland.
In her free time, Masako enjoys hiking, exercising, traveling, and practicing her electric piano. She has 2 small dogs.
What should a new client know about working with you?
She works collaboratively with each patient to create individualized treatment plans that may include therapy, medication management, mindfulness, and other evidence-based wellness interventions. Masako is dedicated to providing a compassionate, supportive environment where patients feel understood, empowered, and equipped to achieve balance, healing, and lasting mental wellness. Masako's treatment modalities aim to incorporate aspects of mindfulness, radical acceptance, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
What is your typical process for working with clients?
Influenced by her Japanese background, she integrates mindfulness-based principles that promote self-awareness, balance, and whole-person healing. She has experience working with a variety of diverse populations in many healthcare settings, and primarily works with adult patients for depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and adjustment disorders.

Most relevant
I did not feel that I was listened to during the two visits, nor was I given good explanations or helpful information from this provider. After the first appointment I was told I would do a written ADHD assessment after the next appt. The next appt.comes around and instead of giving me the assessment as they had promised, they ask me repeat questions about the issues I am having in regards to inattentiveness, mood swings, etc. and offer to prescribe me medication (after I get blood work). I asked about the mechanism of the medication and they had to flip through a book to find the answer. They asked me if I was having problems with memory, and I explained that yes I do but I have ways to cope with it ike taking many notes and they said "ok so no issue with memory." I felt they couldn't understand grey areas and insisted upon me giving them black and white answers where that is impossible. I could go on but I am at the character limit. This was a horrible experience, huge waste of $.
