About Dr. Mathew Don Sorensen
Mathew D. Sorensen, MD, MS, FACS, is a board-certified urologist who specializes in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery, endourology, and the medical and surgical management of kidney stones. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Colorado and completed his internship in General Surgery, residency in Urology, and Master’s degree at the University of Washington. Dr. Sorensen is a surgeon, educator, and researcher providing clinical care for veterans at the Puget Sound VA and at the Kidney Stone Center at UW Medical Center, Northwest.

Dr. Sorensen is the Urology Residency Program Director at the University of Washington. He is primarily responsible for the oversight and management of the residency training program, which focuses on training the next generation of leaders in urology. He has helped lead the program to become one of the best and most competitive training programs in the country, emphasizing holistic, innovative, and well-rounded training to help residents reach their full potential. Dr. Sorensen’s translational research efforts focus on improving the detection, sizing, repositioning, and breaking of kidney stones with ultrasound through a strong collaborative effort with the UW Applied Physics Lab and the Center for Industrial and Medical Ultrasound group.
