Getting to know Dr. Matthew Ashby

Dr. M. McCray Ashby is a board-certified psychiatrist with over 15 years of experience treating children and adolescents in outpatient settings, where he values a multidisciplinary approach. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Kentucky Wesleyan College, completed his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Louisville, followed by a residency in Psychiatry and a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the same institution. He specializes in anxiety disorders, including OCD, as well as depressive and mood disorders, ADHD, and behavioral concerns, and enjoys working closely with children and adolescents to support their mental health and well-being.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Dr. M. McCray Ashby received his medical degree in 2005 from University of Louisville School of Medicine. He completed his residency in general psychiatry at University of Louisville, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in 2008 and his fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at University of Louisville in 2010. Dr. M. McCray Ashby has extensive experience in providing telehealth services and helps to ensure that families and children are comfortable and fully engaged throughout all appointments.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

For first appointments, I will take time for introductions and explain the process. I will typically speak with everyone together so I can hear what brought everyone to the appointment in your own words. I will then transition into basic background information gathering. We will conclude with a discussion of recommendations and work together to develop a mutually acceptable treatment plan. Follow ups tend to be shorter than the first appointment because the full history will not need to be reviewed. We can focus on current struggles and improvements but still allow for ample time to discuss treatment and progress.
